  • Patent number: 7783457
Abstract: A system including multiple devices that each have a sensor and are each configured to communicate with other devices. The system further includes a controller configured to provide command information that specifies a mode of operation of the devices. In a first mode of operation, the devices transmit communication signals and a given device modifies a strength of its communication signal from an initial strength to a final strength based on communication signals it receives from one or more other devices. And in a second mode of operation, the devices transmit communication signals and the given device dynamically adjusts a strength of its communication signal based communication signals it receives from one or more other devices and on measurements performed by the sensor in the given device.

  • Patent number: 7191090
Abstract: A method for determining a physical location of a source is provided. The method includes receiving an acoustic signal from a source placed within an acoustic monitoring area. The method also includes processing a received acoustic signal. The processing is configured to use data from at least two sensors. Also included is identifying an approximate localized point in the acoustic monitoring area. The approximate localized point defines a physical location of the source. The method further includes reporting the physical location of the source over a network.

  • Publication number: 20030130821
Abstract: Provided are a method, system, and program for rendering a visualization of network devices in a computer user interface. A rendering is made of device representations of a plurality of devices in a network and of connection representations of connections between devices, wherein the connection representation between each pair of connected devices comprises a line extending between the two connected devices that forms approximately a ninety degree angle.

  • Publication number: 20030006995
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that selectively magnifies a region within a computer display without obscuring proximate regions in the computer display. The system operates by receiving positioning information from a user of a computer system, wherein the positioning information determines a position of a magnifier within the computer display. Next, the system positions the magnifier over the target region and over proximate regions in the computer display. The system then displays the target region within the magnifier in magnified form, and displays the proximate regions within the magnifier in reduced and/or partially magnified form, so that features within the proximate regions are visible within the magnifier and are not obscured by the magnifier. The system also displays regions within the computer display not covered by the magnifier in unmodified form.

  • Patent number: 6476829
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for viewing plurality of objects on a display that allows a user to zoom on a non-positional display attribute of the plurality of objects. The system operates by receiving a value for a mapped attribute for an object as well as a value for a zooming parameter for the non-positional display attribute. The system maps the mapped attribute to the non-positional display attribute for the object by computing a function of the value of the mapped attribute and the zooming parameter to produce a value for the non-positional display attribute. If the value for the zooming parameter changes in a first direction, the function maps a narrower range of mapped attribute values to prominent display attribute values. If the value for the zooming parameter changes in a second direction, the function maps a wider range of mapped attribute values to prominent display attribute values.
