Abstract: 3,5-Dichloro-2,4-dimethoxy-6-(trichloromethyl)-pyridine, which can be prepared from 2,3,4,5-tetrachloro-6-(trichloromethyl)pyridine and an alkali metal methoxide, is an anticancer agent especially useful for the treatment of leukemias, lymphomas, mammary carcinomas, and ovarian sarcomas.

Abstract: 6-Halo(or CF.sub.3)-4-((di- or tri)halomethyl)-2-pyridinyl esters of carboxylic, carbonic, carbamic, thiocarbamic, sulfonic, or sulfamic acids, exemplified by 6-chloro-4-(trichloromethyl)-2-pyridinyl pentanoate, 4-methylbenzenesulfonate or methylcarbamate, are novel and are useful in the protection of plants from attack by soil-borne fungi.

Abstract: Compounds are prepared which correspond to the formula ##STR1## wherein Y represents trichloromethyl, dichloromethyl or dichlorofluoromethyl; X represents chloro, bromo, fluoro, alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or OR; each R independently represents --(CH.sub.2).sub.3 OR.sup.2, ##STR2## 2-furanylmethyl, 5-alkyl-2-furanylmethyl, tetrahydro-3-furyl, tetrahydro-2-furylmethyl, tetrahydro-2-pyranylmethyl, 2-thiophenemethyl, 2,3-dihydrobenzodioxin-2-ylmethyl or 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dioxolan-4-ylmethyl; each R' independently represents hydrogen or methyl; R.sup.2 represents hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or phenyl; R.sup.3 represents hydrogen or alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and each n independently represents an integer of from 1 to 12. These compounds and compositions containing them have been found to be useful as agronomic fungicides, especially useful and valuable for the control of soil-borne plant disease organisms which attack the roots of plants.

Abstract: Chloromethyl nitropyridine compounds which correspond to one of the formulae ##SPC1##Wherein R represents dichloromethyl, trichloromethyl and n represents an integer of 1 or 2, with the proviso that when n is 2, the R groups are not ortho to each other, and compositions containing said compounds are employed as broad spectrum antimicrobials for the control of both fungal and bacterial organisms.
