  • Publication number: 20070251420
Abstract: A powder coating composition comprising an intimate mixture of at least one thermoplastic and/or thermosetting resin binder and optionally, at least one crosslinking agent and constituents conventional in powder coating compositions, such as, pigments, fillers and additives, comprising aluminum particles having a D50 in a range of 8 to 20 ?m whereby the aluminum particles are treated with compounds selected from the group consisting of silica, (meth)acrylic polymers, polyesters and wax; the powder coating composition provides coatings with a value of thermal emissivity in a range of 0.4 to 0.55 with total solar reflectance values in a range of 60 to 70% in the infrared (IR) and/or near IR (NIR) wavelength region of 0.3 to 2.5 ?m, to minimize the heat transportation through a substrate coated by the powder coating composition, e.g., from a warm building to a colder environment.

  • Publication number: 20060115665
Abstract: The present invention provides a powder coating composition comprising A) 40 to 95 wt % of at least one resin binder selected from the group consisting of polyester resins, epoxy resins, urethane resins and (meth)acrylic resins, B) 5 to 60 wt % of a filler mixture comprising talcum and at least one additional filler, C) 1 to 20 wt % of at least one wax additive selected from the group consisting of polyamide wax, polyethylene wax and zinc stearate, and D) 0 to 95 wt % of at least one cross-linking agent The wt % amounts are based on total weight of the powder coating composition; The powder coating composition cures rapidly and completely and makes it possible to receive coatings with improved flow properties as well as a high smoothness and excellent sandability without any texture on surfaces of heat-sensitive substrates.

  • Publication number: 20050276917
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of powder coatings with any desired gloss level comprising the following steps of: a) applying the powder coating composition onto the substrate surface, b) irradiating the applied powder coating composition with high energy radiation under near-ambient temperature, c) fusing, melting and flowing out the particles of the powder coating composition by increased temperature to a molten coating, and d) curing the molten coating; the process according to the invention makes it possible to control the gloss of the coating to any level, by varying the time period and the intensity of the UV-irradiation in step b).

  • Patent number: 6500385
Abstract: Process for working up powder coating waste to yield reusable powder coatings by compacting the powder coating waste without complete melting to yield a sintered product, in which process powder coating residues arising during powder coating production are continuously separated, continuously compacted and the compacted product is continuously ground together with fresh material to be ground of the same batch of powder coating without extrusion to yield a powder coating.

  • Patent number: 6433030
Abstract: A process for working up powder lacquer wastes to give re-useable powder lacquers by compacting the powder lacquer wastes, without completely melting them, to give a sintered product, in which mixtures of different types of powder lacquer wastes or mixtures of powder lacquer wastes with different standard powder lacquers are compacted and the compacted products obtained are milled to give powder lacquers without an extrusion treatment.

  • Patent number: 6099679
Abstract: Methods for gluing a pair of surfaces are disclosed including preparing a glue from a polymer in the form of a powder, the glue having a melting temperature of up to about 100.degree. C. and being curable by electromagnetic radiation, applying the powder in a dry state to at least one of the two surfaces, heating a region proximate to at least one of the surfaces whereby the powder melts but does not cure, subjecting that surface to electromagnetic radiation to initiate curing of the powder, and joining the two surfaces together prior to completion of curing whereby the two surfaces adhere to each other by means of the tackiness of the glue and are maintained together by the subsequently cured glue. Apparatus for gluing the two surfaces together are also discussed, as are glue compositions for use therein.
