  • Publication number: 20230017070
Abstract: A dispenser is disclosed. In one example, the dispenser relates to the distribution of formic acid vapour in beehives to combat mites. The dispenser has an evaporation surface which is delimited by a thin, gas-permeable, highly porous membrane made from a hydrophobic material and comprises an evaporation container and a reservoir, for the treatment dose of a liquid formic acid preparation. The evaporation container can be placed in a narrow air space of the hive, for example a comb space. The evaporation surface is exposed in a comb space of the brood nest or an air flow path. In one embodiment, the dispenser is equipped with a stackable packaging, and the treatment dose of the formic acid preparation is located exclusively in the hermetically sealed reservoir. The dispenser allows a very high evaporation rate per unit area and can be used without spatially extending the hive.

  • Patent number: 8322993
Abstract: An osmotic pump comprises a first chamber (8) comprising an osmotically active substance (18), a second chamber (15) arranged to be filled with a solvent (17), and a semi-permeable barrier (14) separating the first chamber (8) from the second chamber (15). The semi-permeable barrier (14) is impermeable to the osmotic active substance and permeable to the solvent (17). The osmotic pump further comprises a pressure device (60) in fluid communication with the second chamber (15), wherein the pressure device (60) is arranged for pressurizing the solvent in the second chamber.

  • Publication number: 20120181349
Abstract: Device for dispensing a volatile active substance, comprising a container (3) that is at least partially restricted by a transpiration layer (2). The container (3) is at least partially filled with a liquid mixture comprising at least one volatile liquid substance and an auxiliary liquid. The liquid mixture of the liquid active substance and the auxiliary liquid is capable of forming an azeotrope. The transpiration layer (2) is impermeable for the liquid phase of the liquid mixture, but permeable to its gaseous phase, however.

  • Patent number: 7976535
Abstract: The invention refers to a method for control of a volume flow in an osmotic micropump and an osmotic micropump. According to the invention, the osmotically driven volume flow of the solvent through the sempipermeable diaphragm of an osmotic micropump is controlled by the transfer of a solute, which is not freely permeable through the diaphragm, from a source chamber to the pump's delivery chamber. According to the invention, the delivery chamber is formed as a dilution chamber, wherein the solution is flow out along a convective dilution path close to the semipermeable diaphragm. Due to the entrance of the solvent, a stationary osmotic gradient can be achieved along the convective flow path in the dilution chamber. The invention allows the maintenance and control of the flow rate. It is able to move a volume which is large in comparison to the combined volume of the source chamber and the dilution chamber.

  • Patent number: 7892857
Abstract: The invention relates to an assay method and a fluid microsystem for carrying out said assay method, in particular, for carrying out miniaturized affinity tests in a micro-array format. According to said invention, a liquid phase comprising at least one type of detectable high-molecular weight soluble substance, for example a labeled reaction partner or product of an affinity reaction is displaced by the hydraulic effect of a high-molecular weight osmotic agent on an ultrafiltration membrane towards a miniaturized measuring chamber defined thereby. The fraction of the detectable high-molecular weight substance(s) is concentrated in the measuring chamber, while the dissolved low-molecular weight components are removed with the solvent through the membrane pores, thereby making it possible to attain a high detection sensitivity.
