  • Patent number: 8069904
Abstract: In a method for producing hot strips from a deformable lightweight steel which includes as main elements Fe, Mn, Si and Al, melt is cast close to its final dimension in a horizontal continuous strip casting installation under a protective gas to form a pre-strip between 6 and 20 mm, and the temperature of the pre-strip is adjusted after complete solidification and before the beginning of a hot-rolling process. The pre-strip is passed through a device under a protective gas for homogenization in concert with a selective maintenance of the temperature, cooling or heating, and subsequently subjected to a hot-rolling process having at least one pass with a total degree of deformation of at least 50%, and is then reeled as a hot strip following the cooling process. The hot-rolling process is executed in-line or in decoupled manner depending on the ratio of casting speed to rolling speed.

  • Patent number: 8047263
Abstract: The invention relates to a device for the horizontal continuous strip casting of steel, especially steel with high manganese content, for producing a pre-strip with a thickness ?15 mm. The device includes a tundish containing the melt, a primary cooling zone having two deflection pulleys and a revolving cooled conveyor belt, and a secondary cooling zone which follows the primary cooling zone and has a housed roller table. A guide element having at least one roller is hereby arranged at the end of the primary cooling zone and before the start of the secondary cooling zone.

  • Publication number: 20100059196
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing hot strips (18) from a deformable lightweight steel which is especially suitable for cold deep drawing and includes as main elements Fe, Mn, Si and Al, and which has a high tensile strength and TRIP and/or TWIP properties. Melt is cast close to its final dimension in a horizontal continuous strip casting installation (1) under a protective gas in order to form a pre-strip between 6 and 20 mm, and the temperature of the pre-strip is adjusted after complete solidification and before the beginning of a hot-rolling process. According to the invention, the pre-strip is passed through a device (10) under a protective gas for homogenization in concert with a selective maintenance of the temperature, cooling or heating, and subsequently subjected to a hot-rolling process having at least one pass with a total degree of deformation of at least 50%, and is then reeled as a hot strip following the cooling process.

  • Publication number: 20090266503
Abstract: The object of the invention is to improve the quality of cast hot strips. The object is achieved in terms of the method by a method for producing hot metallic strips, in particular of lightweight structural steel, wherein a melt is charged in the presence of inert gas by means of a runner onto a circulating casting belt of a horizontal strip casting facility, solidifies to form a pre-strip with a thickness of between 6 and 20 mm and, after thorough solidification, the pre-strip undergoes a hot rolling process. The invention is characterized in that the heat transfer and the contact (surface area, time) between the strand solidified to form a pre-strip and the casting belt is reduced, and by a device for carrying out the method.

  • Publication number: 20090196785
Abstract: A transformable lightweight structural steel, which exhibits a resistance to hydrogen embrittlement, has TRIP and TWIP properties and contains the following elements (in wt.-%): C 0.05 to <=1.0; Al 0.0 to <=11.0; Si 0.0 to <=6.0; Al+Si>0.05; Mn 9.0 to =25.0; H<20 ppm, the remainder being iron including incidental steel companion elements, whereby different phases are present depending on the alloy composition. The lightweight structural steel is characterized by associating a higher C content with a lower Mn content and associating a low C content with a higher Mn content, with the C—Mn value pairs being positioned in a C—Mn coordinate system approximately on a straight connecting line that is distant from the connecting line of the C—Mn value pairs being in balance between the austenite and martensite phases.
