  • Patent number: 4440895
Abstract: Synthetic rubber dispersions containing carboxyl groups, free from specks and with little tendency to foaming, with advantages for their technical application contain a copolymer of 0.3 to 1.0 parts by weight of itaconic acid and 99.0 to 99.7 parts by weight of a mixture of 10 to 90 parts by weight of one or more acyclic conjugated dienes having 4 to 9 carbon atoms and 10 to 90 parts by weight of one or more aryl vinyl monomers having 8 to 12 carbon atoms and/or (meth)acrylonitrile, in which the quantity of (meth)acrylonitrile is at most 50 parts by weight and wherein up to 25 parts by weight of the non-dissociating monomers may optionally be replaced by one or more other non-dissociating copolymerizable monomers, which dispersions are stabilized with 0.05 to 0.5% by weight, based on the copolymer, of an anionic emulsifier.

  • Patent number: 4339566
Abstract: A water-dispersible urethane acrylate binding agent which comprises a reaction product of: (A) 1 gram equivalent NCO of a di- or tri-isocyanate; (B) from 0 to 0.7 gram equivalent OH of a polyol, free of organically bound sulphur; (C) from 0.1 to 0.7 gram equivalent OH of a hydroxy-(C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 alkyl)-acrylate; and (D) from 0.01 to 0.5 gram equivalent NH of an amino sulphonic acid or an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal salt thereof having from 1 to 4 amino groups per sulphonic acid group; the ratio of NCO group: NCO-reactive groups being from 1:1 to 1:1.2 which are prepared by reacting components (A), (B), (C), and (D) in a ratio of NCO groups:NCO-reactive groups of from 1:1 to 1:1.2 at a temperature of from 20.degree. to 100.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4264645
Abstract: The present invention is concerned with a method for improving the water storage capacity of textile substrates, particularly fleece based artificial leathers by treatment with a hydrophilizing agent. This agent, once applied to the substrate is insoluble in but swellable in water. The agent in an uncross-linked state is water soluble and has a turbidity point of between about 25.degree. and 95.degree. C. in a 25% aqueous solution. The agent may be applied to the substrate from aqueous solution and then cross-linked or it may be applied to an inert carrier such as kaolin, cross-linked and applied to the substrate from an aqueous suspension. A particularly suitable agent is a polyether with a molecular weight of between 500 and 8500, an ethylene oxide content of about 35 to 80 wt. % and cross-linkable end groups. The end groups may be self cross-linking such as vinyl groups or they may be cross-linkable via a cross-linking promoter such as hexamethylol melamine.

  • Patent number: 3959552
Abstract: An aqueous dispersion of copolymers are used as binders for the production of optionally dry-cleanable nonwoven materials. The copolymers consist of copolymerized units of 1 - 2.5% by weight of N-methylol(meth)acrylamide, 1 - 2.5% by weight of (meth)acrylamide, 0.5 - 3% by weight of .alpha.,.beta.-monoolefinically unsaturated di- or tricarboxylic acids with 4 to 6 carbon atoms and 89.5 - 97.5% by weight of (meth)-acrylic acid esters having 1 - 18 carbon atoms in the alcohol component.

  • Patent number: 3936556
Abstract: A process for identifying manufactured articles in which a marking agent such as a homo- or copolymer of polymerizable ethylenically unsatured monomers is applied to the articles. Said homo- or copolymer contains at least one group which can be split off to form a low molecular weight compound such as an amine or phenol, which can be converted into dyes, said dyes being used to identify the manufactured articles.
