  • Patent number: 4082946
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the illumination of optical examination devices adapted to be connected to the distal end of a light conducting cable connected at its near end to a source of light, which apparatus permits control of illumination of the distal end of the cable. The apparatus includes a housing connected to the distal end of the cable and adapted to receive optical examination devices. A filter support mounts a plurality of filters within the housing for selective movement in and out of the path of light eminating from the distal end of the cable. The filter support is moved by operating a positioning control on the housing which is mechanically coupled to the filter support. In operation, the optical examination device is mounted to the housing which serves as a handle for it, and the illumination of the device is selected by operating the positioning control with the same hand that holds the housing.

  • Patent number: 4060724
Abstract: A mounting apparatus is provided for an optical examination device secured to a hand grip at the distal end of a light-conducting cable which is connected at its near end to a projector. The mounting apparatus includes a lower mount for supporting the cable receiving end of the hand grip, which mount has a slit in it to permit passage of the cable, and an upper mount which serves as a holding device for either the other end of the hand grip or the optical examination device secured thereto. A sensing device is provided in the upper mount to turn off the light source which illuminates the cable when the hand grip is placed in the mounting apparatus and to turn the source on when the hand grip is removed from the mounting apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4043646
Abstract: A filter mechanism for use with a source of white light permits selective color filtration of the white light, as well as unfiltered light transmission. A color filter support, having a plurality of spaced color filters, mounts the filters for selective movement in and out of the path of light from the source. A heat protection filter support mounts a heat protection filter for movement between an active position in the path of light from the source and an inactive position out of the path of light. In a preferred embodiment, the color filter support and heat filter support are mechanically coupled so that when a color filter is placed in the path of light, the heat filter is in its active position, but when no color filter is placed in the light path the heat filter is in its inactive position.

  • Patent number: 4012686
Abstract: A wall mounted power supply for medical diagnostic instruments provides a continuously variable output voltage over the normal operating range of such instruments and a discreet excess voltage above the normal operating range to provide extra illumination during brief periods. The power supply output is regulated so as to be independent of load. The power supply is adapted to be conveniently wall mounted on a bracket assembly which permits quick and secure attachment and removal.

  • Patent number: 3936161
Abstract: This application discloses an ophthalmoscope illumination arrangement including a bulb mounted in a special bulb carrier which is adapted to cooperate with the ophthalmoscope chassis so as to automatically position the bulb for best illumination. The bulb carrier and ophthalmoscope chassis cooperate to establish the longitudinal position of the bulb filament along the illumination axis of the instrument and to align the rotational position of the bulb filament with the upper edge of the reflective mirror or prism so that the illumination beam is in close alignment with the viewing axis of the instrument.

  • Patent number: 3934578
Abstract: The present application discloses a small size otoscope (the instrument with which the doctor examines the ear) including a bulb mounted directly in the proximal portion of the speculum body to illuminate the field of view. The bulb includes positive and negative side contacts and is adapted to be received in a sleeve positioned in the speculum, with the bulb being inserted from the rear of the sleeve to permit easy bulb replacement.
