Abstract: The invention relates to a device for generating radiation by means of excimer discharge, equipped with an at least partly UV-transparent discharge vessel (1), the discharge chamber (2) of which is filled with a gas filling, with means for igniting and maintaining an excimer discharge (4, 5) in the discharge chamber and with a coating (3) comprising a light-emitting compound. The light-emitting compound has the following composition: (Ca1-x-2ySrx)Li2Si1-zGezO4:LnyMy, wherein Ln is a cation selected from the group Ce3+, Pr3+, Sm3+, Eu3+, Gd3+, Tb3+, Dy3+, Er3+, Tm3+ and Yb3+, and M is a cation selected from the group Na+, K+ and Rb+, 0 £x £0.1, 0.001 £y £0.2 and 0 £z £1. The coating (3) preferably comprises Ca1-2yLi2SiO4:PryNay with 0.001 £y £0.2. A device with a coating (3) comprising Ca1-2yLi2SiO4:PryNay with 0.001 £y £0.2 may be used for disinfection purposes.
