  • Patent number: 6088502
Abstract: A closure part for the liquid and dirt-sealed closure of a coupling socket for optical waveguides carries a central sealing element and a sleeve coaxially surrounding the sealing element. The sealing element includes an end surface having a bevel with a surface area adapted to an edging on an end surface of the coupling socket. The sealing element is pressed against the socket and seals the socket by suitable pressure. The sleeve grips in a firmly adhering manner around an outer lateral surface of the socket, fixes the closure part in an SC receptacle and seals the socket from the outside.

  • Patent number: 5845027
Abstract: In fiber-optical plug connections or guard plugs for electrooptical modules, detent arms are used to lock the connection. When such connections are undone, the detent arms are pressed out of their abutments and in the process are exposed to a severe mechanical stress, which can cause material fatigue. A disconnectable plug includes two spaced-apart outer walls that can be spread apart from one another. Through the use of a partition, the two outer walls are resiliently supported against one another in their middle region. In an insertion position, detent arms of plug partners are lockingly supported by the outer walls that have detent surfaces. In an unlocking position, the outer walls release the detent arms. The detent arms are stressed only by tension but not by flexion. Conversely, the partition receives the entire bending stress upon spreading. The disconnectable plug is especially suitable for guard plugs and connections in electrooptical modules.

  • Patent number: 5738538
Abstract: An electrical unit includes a printed circuit board having a multi-pole plug and a main board having body edges and a plug to be connected to the multi-pole plug in a plug connection. A frame for receiving the printed circuit board has opposed sides and catch lugs being disposed on the opposed sides. The catch lugs have catch elements and the catch lugs are elastically deformed by the body edges upon connection of the plug of the main board to the multi-pole plug. A release lever is supported on the frame and has at least one pressure surface to be pivoted out of a connected position in which the catch elements are latched fixingly to the main board and into a release position in which the at least one pressure surface is braced against the main board for generating a force to undo the plug connection.

  • Patent number: 4938559
Abstract: A switch for opening and closing optical connections between at least a pair of fiber-optical waveguides comprising a base body having a planar seating surface, a common retaining element being formed of a spring steel resting on the seating surface of the base body and having at least one slot to form a switch tongue integrally connected by at least one stay to a carrier part, at least two waveguides being secured on the same surface of the retaining elements so that when the tongue is in a first position engaging the seating surface, a closed optical connection between the waveguides will be obtained. Preferably, the switch is electromagnetically actuated to cause the tongue to move between a pair of positions with one position having the waveguides optically connected together and the other position having them out of connection.

  • Patent number: 4818057
Abstract: A plug housing for receiving an optical fiber cable having independent arrangements for gripping the jacket of the cable, wrapping and gripping the reinforcement elements of the cable, and for gripping the optical fibers of the cable, each of these arrangements is independently mounted within the housing so that each can be separately manipulated. In addition, these arrangements are each received in the housing without deforming a portion of the housing.

  • Patent number: 4805978
Abstract: A device or appliance comprising a light waveguide plug connector is composed of a pin seated resiliently and with play in a socket. Both the pin and socket have cylindrical portions and conical end portions, one of the pins and socket has an intermediate tapering portion with a taper substantially less than the taper of the conical end portion. The slightly tapered intermediate portion will facilitate the plugging in of the pin into the socket, even given a radial offset of the axis of the socket and the pin to each other.

  • Patent number: 4514034
Abstract: A method for producing a switch for opening and closing optical connections between two end faces of an optical waveguide characterized by securing the two waveguides on a carrier part and a movable tongue with their end faces aligned and in contact with each other and then either deforming the tongue or a connecting piece, which connects the tongue to the carrier part to move the end of the tongue with the attached waveguide away from an edge of the carrier plate. In the preferred embodiment the tongue and part are integrally connected together by at least one integral stay which has been provided with a shallow bead which is pressed flat after securing the waveguides to the tongue and carrier plate to cause the desired spacing between the end faces of the waveguide.
