  • Patent number: 4156038
Abstract: A method for making a finish-effect film which possesses pores in a predetermined design pattern by printing an absorbent water-swellable supporting web in a predetermined design pattern with a substance that retards penetration of water, coating the web with an aqueous resin preparation, and then curing the resin. Three-dimensional pores are produced in the web in a pattern corresponding to the predetermined design due to greater swelling of the unprinted areas of the web by impregnation of the water from the aqueous resin preparation as compared to the printed areas. The thus produced finish-effect film can be used for decorative purposes in a manner similar to wood veneers.

  • Patent number: 4151315
Abstract: A method for manufacturing split-resistant improvement webs from paper having a weight per unit area of .ltoreq.60 g/m.sup.2 which has a hardened synthetic resin on the decorative side and which are used for gluing to the surface of wood-based panels wherein a solution or dispersion of a hardenable impregnating resin is first applied to the paper using a metered-roller application in an amount between about 8% based on the solids content of the resin (of the weight of the paper) but less than an amount such as to assure that the resin does not penetrate to the reverse side of the paper. The impregnated paper is then dried, decoratively printed, and then coated with a solution or dispersion of a hardenable resin followed by drying and hardening. Such webs are easily handled and can be rolled up and the method allows the use of conventional paper which does not have to be specially treated.

  • Patent number: 3952119
Abstract: A method for coloring, dyeing-in or inking absorptive, rough surface paper, particularly paper which is subsequently saturated and/or impregnated with a solution of a heat-hardenable synthetic resin and then dried and pressed on a substrate, such as, wood panels, with as thin as possible a layer of coloring agent having an optically uniform coloring, in which the paper is colored by applying a magnetic roller coloring process thereto and, before or after such coloring, the paper is printed by a copperplate intaglio printing process or a flexographic (flexo-relief) printing process.
