Abstract: A process for producing cis-2-methyl-2-butenoic acid, which process is preferably based on technical 2-methyl-2-butene nitrile and leads to pure products preferably without costly rectification. The technical nitrile is hydrolyzed by concentrated sulfuric acid at temperatures of up to 130.degree. C. and, following dilution of the sulfuric acid to about 50%, at temperatures of up to 130.degree. C. It is treated by distilling and fractional crystallization.

Abstract: Compounds of the general formulae ##STR1## in which R may be a methyl or ethyl radical and R.sup.1 may be a hydrogen, methyl or ethyl radical are disclosed. Also provided as part of the present invention are processes for the preparation of the above compounds. The compounds of the invention are useful as scents.

Abstract: Hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane is prepared by heating linear, branched, or cross-linked organopolysiloxanes containing at least 50 mol percent of dimethylsiloxane units to at least 350.degree. C. in the absence of substances which attack the siloxane group during heating and simultaneously distilling off the cyclic dimethylpolysiloxanes thus formed.The hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane thus prepared is an excellent carrier for fragrant materials, especially where the carrier is present in admixture with other carrier substances such as tetramethylcyclobutanedione.

Abstract: The invention discloses compounds of the general formula ##STR1## in which R represents a methyl radical or a methoxy radical when R.sup.1 is a hydrogen atom; orR represents a methyl radical when R.sup.1 is a methyl radical.The compounds of the invention are useful as fragrances.

Abstract: The compound 16-oxa-bicyclo-[13.1.0]-hexadec-7-ene, and a process for its production, having the structural formula: ##STR1## is disclosed. 16-oxa-bicyclo-[13.1.0]-hexadec-7-ene is useful as a fragrance and may be produced by reacting cyclopentadeca-1,8-diene in the presence of an organic peracid.

Abstract: Compounds of the general formula (I) ##STR1## and compounds of the general formula (II) ##STR2## in which R.sup.1 represents --OH, --CH.sub.2 OH, --CH.sub.2 --OCH.sub.3, --CHOH--CH.sub.3, --CHO or --CH(OCH.sub.3).sub.2,R.sup.2 represents methyl or ethyl,R.sup.3 represents hydrogen or methyl, andX represents hydrogen or methyl, are disclosed.Processes for the manufacture of certain compounds of formula (I) and for those of formula (II) are also provided. Abstract: Compounds of the general formula I: ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are equal or different alkyl-, alkoxyalkyl-, or aryl groups, or together form a ring; R.sub.3 is an allyl or benzyl radical; and R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 represent hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkenyl or further compounds of the formula II: ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.4 and R.sub.5 have the meaning indicated above and R.sub.6 stands for hydrogen or methyl or to compounds which are modified by the addition of hydrogen to at least one olefinic or carbonylic double bond of compounds of the general formula I or II. The compounds of the general formula II are obtained by thermal treatment of a selection of compounds of formula I, for which R.sub.3 stands for the allyl or methallyl radical. The compounds according to the invention are used as fragrant and flavoring substances.
