  • Patent number: 6926638
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for carrying out an automated clutch actuation of a motor vehicle with a drive engine and a transmission, connected to said drive engine by way of a clutch, in which process the clutch exhibits both an opened and a closed operating position, whereby to introduce unpowered operating phases the clutch is transferred by means of automation into the opened operating position and to introduce powered operating phases it is transferred by means of automation into the closed operating position. To design such a process more reliably and comfortably, the variables, from which a dangerous situation in time or its termination can be concluded with a certain probability, are measured, according to the invention, so that the clutch can be moved into an operating position (opened or closed), which makes it possible to carry out faster the subsequent request of the driver—such as an acceleration request or a braking request.

  • Patent number: 6459981
Abstract: In a process for automatic adjustment of handling of a motor vehicle having an internal-combustion engine, operating and condition quantities are determined and compared with reference values. If the operating and condition quantities deviate from the reference values, adjusting signals are generated for adjusting vehicle and engine components. In order to recognize predetermined driving situations, and to make corresponding adjustments for influencing the vehicle handling, starting and ending of predetermined driving modes (acceleration operation, deceleration operation and constant drive operation) are detected by logically evaluating diverse operating and condition quantities. The conditions for detecting the start of a driving condition differ from the conditions for the end of the same driving condition.

  • Patent number: 6278911
Abstract: A method for recognizing a spontaneous demand by a driver of a motor vehicle for a dynamic response, the extent of the actuation of an operating device being compared to a threshold value, and the demand for a dynamic response being recognized when the extent of actuation lies above a specific threshold value, and, when comparing the extent of actuation to the threshold value, allowance being made for the manner in which the vehicle driver normally actuates the operating device.

  • Patent number: 6216068
Abstract: A method for driver-behavior-adaptive control of a variably adjustable motor vehicle accessory. One or more parameters indicative of driver behavior are sensed and a pertinent driver behavior is ascertained therefrom. Accessory adjustment is performed variably as a function of the driver behavior that was ascertained. The driver behavior is ascertained in terms of a long-term driving manner component, and a short-term dynamic demand component and/or a steady-speed request component. Accessory adjustment is performed, if a short-term dynamic demand exists, in accordance with an adjustment characteristic having a dynamic level corresponding at least to that dynamic demand. When a constant-speed request exists, accessory adjustment is performed in accordance with a relevant low-dynamic adjustment characteristic. Otherwise, accessory adjustment is performed in accordance with an adjustment characteristic determined by the long-term driving manner component.

  • Patent number: 6102002
Abstract: A method for adjusting the throttle and/or injection quantity of a motor vehicle combustion engine at the command of a vehicle driver, an adaption being made to the vehicle driver's driving style, the curve of angle throttle position and/or injection quantity over accelerator pedal position angle exhibiting a progressive characteristic when there is driving behavior recognized as conservative and a degressive characteristic when there is driving behavior recognized as sporty.

  • Patent number: 6037731
Abstract: A method is provided for adapting the side support, as a function of the driving situation and driving styles, of a person sitting in the seat of a vehicle, in which method a lateral acceleration acting on the seat is determined as reference variable for the adaptation. In order to allow greater allowance for the way in which the sitting person senses lateral acceleration, as well as a comfortable sitting sensation with the advantages of a necessary side support which is built up in curves at short notice, the specific instantaneous lateral acceleration is weighted with the instantaneous driving speed of the vehicle. A control variable for the degree of adaptation is derived therefrom. In addition, a supplementary control variable is determined which brings about support of the driver on both sides in the seat as a function of the driving style. A vehicle seat in which this method is applied is specified.

  • Patent number: 5546793
Abstract: A process determines the torque transmitted by the gas forces to the crankshaft of an internal-combustion engine. The rotational speed data which is detected by determining the angular speed of a component fixedly connected with the crankshaft is analyzed, and the rotating moment is computed from the angular speed correlated with the rotational speed by way of the moment of inertia of the engine. In addition to the rotational moment of the engine, the torques of the oscillating masses, the torsional moments of the crankshaft and the static torques resulting from all slowly variable friction moments, effective moments and load moments are determined. From a balance of these individual torques, the torque resulting form the gas forces is determined. Subsequently, the work delivered by the individual cylinders per working cycle is determined from this torque. The thus determined operating parameters is used for the engine control and/or for the on-board diagnosis.

  • Patent number: 5440602
Abstract: Method and device for counting clock pulses for the purpose of determining period length works in accordance with an absolute time measuring principle, provides at least a single main counter which runs uninterruptedly from the start of measurement to the end of measurement and a channel counter for each of a number n of measuring channels. By stopping a channel counter at the associated measurement period end and reading out the counter reading thereof as well as that of a supplementary upper main counter part which contains the higher-order count positions, a determination is made of the total time elapsed from the start of measurement up to the respective detected period end, and thereafter the target period lengths are determined by forming the difference of successive count values. The invention can be used, for example, for the high-precision measurement of the speed of a system rotating about an axis.

  • Patent number: 4881174
Abstract: A device for high resolution measurement of frequency of a sinusoidal signal generated by a signal generator using an analog to digital converter to digitize the signal at an adjustable sampling frequency for a period defined by a given zero transition. The frequency is proportional to the number of samples taken within the measured period adjusted by a mathematical relationship between the absolute values of the sampled signal before and after the zero transition.
