Publication number: 20010005714Abstract: Cholesterol biosynthesis can be inhibited by suitable inhibitors, such as the statins. However, hypercholesterolaemia, whether familial or diet-induced, and more generally hyperlipidaemia are not adequately addressed by cholesterol biosynthesis inhibitors alone, since the body's cholesterol is acquired by uptake from the diet as well as by endogenous synthesis. Lipid is also taken up from the gut. This problem is addressed by providing one or more molecules having amphipathic regions to inhibit the uptake of cholesterol, and other lipids, from the gut. Obesity may also be treated or prevented in this way, as may atherosclerosis. Examples of suitable molecules having amphipathic regions include natural or variant apoproteins and other proteins and peptides having an amphipathic &agr;-helix composed of at least about 15 amino acids.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 1998Publication date: June 28, 2001Inventors: DARIO BOFFELLI, HELMUT HAUSER

Patent number: 5002175Abstract: A device for lifting and positioning platelike workpiece carriers comprising stops for stopping a workpiece carrier and movable into the conveying path of the workpiece carrier, and two rails located on opposite sides of the conveying path of the workpiece carrier and each having a locking bar surface cooperating with a stop surface on the workpiece carrier in a stopped position of the workpiece carrier to lift and fix the workpiece carrier in a predetermined position thereof, at least one of the rails being movable transverse relative to the conveying path of the workpiece carrier.Type: GrantFiled: November 11, 1988Date of Patent: March 26, 1991Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Peter Drexel, Helmut Hauser, Gernot Maier, Peter Rothfuss
-
Patent number: 4619794Abstract: The present invention relates to a novel advantageous process for the preparation of unilamellar liposomes in aqueous phase by converting a suitable lipid component, e.g. phosphatidic acid, into the ionic form by subjecting the lipid dispersion to a change in pH value and subsequently neutralizing it. Formation of the unilamellar liposomes is spontaneous, i.e. it takes place without additional external supply of energy. The liposomes obtainable by the process of this invention can be used therapeutically as carriers for drugs of the most widely different kind.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 1985Date of Patent: October 28, 1986Assignee: Ciba-Geigy CorporationInventor: Helmut Hauser
