  • Publication number: 20120328797
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for heating/cooling and coating a substrate in a vacuum chamber, comprising the following steps: (1) arranging the lower face of the substrate on a substrate holder, (2) lifting the substrate by a predefined distance relative to the substrate holder, and (3) heating the lifted substrate via its upper face by means of a heating device such as a radiant heating device, (4) coating the hot substrate, for example by moving it in or through a coating zone, (5) cooling the substrate by lowering it onto the chuck and (6) optionally further coating the cold substrate. The method according to the invention further enables process sequences to be executed, wherein various defined temperatures can be set on the substrate during each step, and optionally one or more coating processes can be executed immediately subsequently at said substrate temperature.

  • Patent number: 7799179
Abstract: The invention relates to a sputtering cathode (1) for coating a substrate (6), which comprises a device (5) for generating an external magnetic field with substantially parallel magnetic field lines (8) substantially in the plane of the substrate. The invention further relates to a device and a method for coating a substrate with several layers, whereby several sputtering cathodes are disposed in a circle with their target effective areas pointing radially outward.

  • Patent number: 4919364
Abstract: A propulsion system for an aircraft capable of hypersonic flight combines a turbo-jet with a ramjet which are so arranged that the ramjet or jets are located directly adjacent to the aircraft body while the turbo-jet or jets are located away from the aircraft body so that the ramjet or jets is placed between the turbo-jets and the body. This arrangement makes the turbo-jets much more accessible for maintenance and exchange work. Both types of engines have a common air intake which is provided with flaps capable of guiding the body boundary layer through the ramjet when the latter is not in operation. When the ramjet is in operation, the air intake flaps form the air intake in such a way that boundary layer turbulent air is mixed with undisturbed incoming air for the ramjet while the air inflow to the turbo-jet is closed off altogether.

  • Patent number: 4086766
Abstract: A fluid coupling comprising a first member secured on a first shaft, a second member secured on a second shaft in axial alignment with said first shaft, and an annular fluid race chamber, one of said members having a vaned annulus within said fluid race chamber and the other said member presenting at least one gate into the fluid race chamber, said gate, or each gate, being arranged to allow the vaned annulus of the vaned member to pass relative thereto while obstructing the circumferential flow of fluid along the race chamber and whereby, when the race chamber is charged with fluid and the assembly is rotated, the fluid flows in the race chamber generate to a pressure gradiant acting circumferentially of the axis of rotation to create a pressure difference across the, or each, gate to impart rotation to the gated member.
