Publication number: 20110169217Abstract: In a method and a device for transporting paper within a paper handling installation from a first conveyor to a second conveyor, the second conveyor has a velocity which at least partially follows a drive curve of the first conveyor. A frictional force between the second conveyor and the paper is set to a first value when the first conveyor and the second conveyor are in engagement with the paper. The frictional force between the second conveyor and the paper is set to a second value, which is higher than the first value, when the papers is conveyed by the second conveyor.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 23, 2008Publication date: July 14, 2011Inventors: Manfred Ziegler, Helmut Koelle, Walter Okelmann, Andreas Glossner, Helmut Eichelberg, Christian Keil

Patent number: 6942216Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device for distributing a predetermined number of sheets (410, 412, 414, 416) from a group of sheets in which a plurality of sheets is arranged in a shingled mode of arrangement in a sheet transport direction (P) in such a way that the leading edges of the sheets in the paper transport direction are spaced apart by a certain length of displacement (X), wherein the group of sheets is moved in the sheet transport direction (P) by a predetermined distance which depends on the number of sheets to be distributed and on the sheet displacement, a respective sheet constituting the leading sheet in the sheet transport direction (P) being distributed from the group of sheets as soon as the respective leading sheet has reached a distributing unit (504) as a result of the movement.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2000Date of Patent: September 13, 2005Assignee: Bowe Systec AGInventor: Helmut Koelle

Patent number: 6929260Abstract: A method and a device for transferring at least two sheets, which are arranged in a shingled mode of arrangement in a sheet transport direction, to a sheet handling machine in which the at least two sheets are moved at a first speed after the transfer, a first and a second sheet being spaced by a certain length of displacement in the sheet transport direction. The two sheets are first supplied to the sheet handling machine at a second speed which is higher than the first speed. As soon as the first sheet is decelerated to the first speed in the sheet handling machine, the second sheet is decelerated to a third speed which is lower than the second speed.Type: GrantFiled: August 10, 2000Date of Patent: August 16, 2005Assignee: Bowe Systec AGInventor: Helmut Koelle

Patent number: 6814351Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and a device for arranging at least two sheets in a shingled mode of arrangement, wherein a first sheet is moved in a paper travelling direction, and a second sheet is simultaneously moved in a direction at an angle relative to the paper travelling direction in such a way that the at least two sheets are slid one on top of the other. Alternatively, the first and the second sheet are moved in a first and in a second direction at respective different angles relative to a paper travelling direction. Another alternative is to move the two sheets in a first and in a second direction at different speeds but at identical angles relative to the paper travelling direction.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 2002Date of Patent: November 9, 2004Assignee: Boewe Systems AGInventor: Helmut Koelle

Patent number: 6769677Abstract: A device for reading flat material having an endless perforated belt, guided over two rollers, one of which is driven. Material is brought from a feeder to an inlet arranged on both sides of the rollers and the belt transports the material to an outlet. The material is retained against the belt by vacuum. The device is adjustable relative to the feeder and, in one position, the entrance to the inlet is at the level of the feeder and, in the other position, the entrance to the inlet is at the level of the feeder. At least one reading device is provided, for reading the markings from the material being transported on the belt. On adjustment from the one position to the other, a reversal in the direction of rotation of the driven roller occurs and the reading device faces that side of the belt, the entrance to the inlet of which is at the level of the feeder.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 2003Date of Patent: August 3, 2004Assignee: Bowe Systec AGInventor: Helmut Koelle

Publication number: 20030141168Abstract: The invention relates to a device for the reading of flat material, comprising an endless perforated belt (1), guided over two rollers (2, 3), of which one is driven. The material is brought from a feeder device (10, 11, 12) to an inlet and the belt (1) transports said material to an outlet, whereby the material is retained against the belt by a vacuum acting on the perforations (20) of the belt (1) and at least one reading device (15) is provided, for reading the markings from the material being transported on the belt (1). In conventional devices of this type only markings may be read which lie on the upper surface of the sheet. The aim of the invention is to provide an embodiment of the device with which markings may also be read which lie on the under surface of the sheet.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 7, 2003Publication date: July 31, 2003Inventor: Helmut Koelle

Patent number: 6460842Abstract: A device for superposing sheets of paper comprising a lower vacuum conveyance unit for one row of sheets of paper (R1) and an upper vacuum conveyance unit for another row of sheets of paper (R2). The ends of the vacuum conveyance units can be adjusted independently from each other, crosswise to the direction in which the paper advances (P). One vacuum conveyance unit can be adjusted in a slanted position in relation to the direction in which the paper advances (P) so that it cuts across the vacuum conveyance unit on the opposite side.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 2000Date of Patent: October 8, 2002Assignee: Boewe Systec AGInventor: Helmut Koelle

Patent number: 6007471Abstract: A curl-suppressing device for a paper web in a paper processing machine has a stationary deflecting bar (1) that extends transversely to the direction of travel (A) of the paper, a deflecting roller (4) parallel to the deflecting bar (1) and arranged downstream of the deflecting bar (1) in the direction of travel of the paper and two supporting plates (3) that carry the ends of the deflecting bar and deflecting roller and may be displaced around a swivelling axis (A3) on a stationary support (9). The paper web (2) to be decurled runs in a S-shaped path between the deflecting bar (1) and the deflecting roller (4) and is frictionally drawn over the deflecting bar (1). A regulating motor is associated to one of the supporting plates (3) to swivel the supporting plate (3) until at least the deflecting bar (1) may be moved out of contact with the paper web (2).Type: GrantFiled: August 8, 1997Date of Patent: December 28, 1999Assignee: Boewe Systec AGInventors: Werner Munk, Christian Kraus, Helmut Koelle

Patent number: 5704604Abstract: The present invention pertains to a process and a device for forming stacks from printed documents or other sheets 9. The sheets 9 are either moved forward individually or are separated from a web 2 of printed sheets by tearing or cutting, and they are arranged in a stream one on top of another such that the next sheet 9 comes to lie offset under the preceding sheet 9. The stack 10 is formed by the sheets 9 arranged in a stream coming into contact with a stop 11. To lose little time during the transfer of a finished stack 10 of sheets, a gap 25 is formed between the last sheet 9 belonging to the stack 10 and the next sheet before the sheets 9 are arranged in a stream. As soon as the last sheet 9 has reached the stacking position, the stop 11 is removed from its stop position, so that the stack 10 is moved away from the belt conveyor 20. The stop 11 is then returned into its stop position, and the next stack 10 is formed.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 1996Date of Patent: January 6, 1998Assignee: Bowe Systec AGInventors: Helmut Koelle, Bertold Mader, Gerhard Winterstein
