  • Patent number: 7441979
Abstract: A ball and socket joint is provided, preferably for use in vehicles, especially in the area of the chassis of motor vehicles. The ball and socket joint includes a ball and socket joint housing having a joint opening, with a ball pivot, which is arranged in the ball and socket joint housing, extends through the joint opening and with which a shaft is made integral. A support ring is arranged on the shaft of the ball pivot. A sealing element is arranged between the support ring and a connection component surrounding the shaft of the ball pivot. The function of the sealing element is preserved over comparatively long periods of time without being adversely affected by corrosion phenomena in the area of the ball pivot.

  • Publication number: 20080213036
Abstract: A ball and socket joint, for example, for an axle system of a motor vehicle. The ball and socket joint has an essentially ring-shaped or pot-shaped joint housing (1), in the essentially cylindrical interior space of which a ball shell 2 can be arranged. The ball 3 of a ball pivot 4 or of a ball sleeve 8 can be accommodated in the ball shell 2 in a slidingly movable manner. The bearing surface 10 of the ball shell 2 is essentially the same as the surface of an ellipsoid of revolution, whose smaller semiaxis coincides with the axial direction of the ball and socket joint. The construction has advantages in terms of service life, fail-safe operation and load-bearing capacity. The more uniform surface pressure distribution in the bearing gap between the ball shell and joint ball guarantees reduced wear and lower moments of friction.

  • Patent number: 7357591
Abstract: A ball-and-socket joint has a pivot pin accommodated rotatably and tiltably with a spherical joint area in a bearing shell. The bearing shell is in turn arranged in the recess of a joint housing. A closing ring fixes the bearing shell in the joint housing in the axial longitudinal direction of the pivot pin by at least one surface pair. Corresponding to a first solution variant, an intermediate element made of an elastic material may be arranged between the corresponding contact surfaces of the surface pair on the bearing shell and the closing ring. As an alternative an insert element may be arranged between the outer contour of the bearing shell and the bottom area of the recess, wherein at least one intermediate element made of an elastic material is arranged between the outer surface of the insert element and the corresponding inner surface of the recess.

  • Publication number: 20040146338
Abstract: The present invention pertains to a ball-and-socket joint with a pivot pin (1, 31), which is accommodated rotatably and tiltably with a spherical joint area (9, 39) in a bearing shell (4, 34), which is in turn arranged in the recess (3, 33) of a joint housing (2, 32), wherein a closing ring (5, 35, 36 [sic-Tr.Ed.]) fixes the bearing shell (4, 34) in the joint housing (2, 32) in the axial longitudinal direction of the pivot pin (1, 31) by at least one surface pair. Corresponding to a first solution variant, an intermediate element (20, 50) made of an elastic material may be arranged according to the present invention between the corresponding contact surfaces of the surface pair on the bearing shell (4, 34) and the closing ring (6 [sic—Tr.Ed.], 36 [sic—Tr.Ed.
