Abstract: This invention relates to a filtering apparatus for filtering liquids, in particular beverages. To attain an effective seal between two superimposed filter supports and the associated filter bodies in such a filtering apparatus, the upper side of an underlying filter support has formed therein a groove which opens upwards and has a substantially trapezoidal cross section and whose interior groove wall is substantially parallel to the inner wall of the apron of the filter support respectively lying thereabove, and the profiled seal has, on the whole, a substantially rectangular cross section, with the profiled seal portion supported on the respectively lower filter support being adapted to the cross section of the groove.

Abstract: Filter pads, which are made inherently stable by binders and by removal of the binders can be converted in packings to be maintained under substantially constant surface pressure between rigid filter brackets, are produced first as molded bodies from a suspension of filter aids in liquid by depositing granular, fibrous, or fiber-containing filter aids or mixtures of those filter aids in a casting mold, there being used high rates of flow while avoiding turbulences, and adding binders to the suspension so that the molded body can be stabilized by activation of the binder while drying. It is possible in this process also to manufacture multi-layered filter pads, it having been surprisingly found in those multi-layered filter pads that the layer assembly is kept intact during the filtration even in the filter packing that no longer contains binders.

Abstract: The present invention concerns a process for secondary purification and stabilization of liquids containing polyphenols and/or proteins. The liquid to be treated is first subjected to a centrifuge, or similar apparatus, which performs the primary purification of the liquid. The treated liquid is then mixed with stabilizing means that adsorb the polyphenols and proteins and filter means that retain the fine turbidities contained within the liquid. The liquid mixture is then transferred to an alluvial filter apparatus in laminar flow wherein the filter means and stabilization means along with the adsorbed polyphenols and proteins form a filter cake. The purified liquid is then transported to subsequent treatment while the filter cake is subsequently treated with a solution which dissolves the polyphenols and protein thereby regenerating the stabilization means and the filter means.

Abstract: The filter comprises a pressure vessel, which contains vertically spaced apart partitions for supporting respective layers of a particulate filtering material. In order to ensure that the result of the filtration will not be influenced by fluctuations of the flow, pressure and temperature conditions of the solids-laden fluid to be filtered, each layer of filtering material is enclosed by a sheath, which is permeable to the fluid to be filtered and impermeable to the filtering material and which together with said filtering material constitutes a filtering package, which is engaged at its top and bottom by two of said partitions and is compressed by said partitions under constant pressure. The partitions engaging each of said filtering packages at its top and bottom define with said filtering package passages for the supply of said solids-laden fluid to said filtering package and for withdrawing filtrate from said package.
