  • Patent number: 5203268
Abstract: An apparatus for sewing elastic hems on fabric pieces is designed as a tandem machine. In a first sewing machine (26a), an elastic band (6) is prefixed at the edge of a fabric piece (8). During further conveyance thereof, the thus created double-ply structure is folded by 180.degree. by a baffle plate (34). A pair of conveying rollers (36, 38) withdraws the double-ply structure from the baffle plate. Between the first sewing machine (26a) and a second sewing machine (26b), provided for finishing the elastic hem, there is provided a deflection roller (40) deflecting the triple-ply structure, formed by said folding and consisting of fabric edge portion, an elastic band, and a fabric folding portion, from the horizontal. The deflection roller (40) is driven in a direction opposite to the conveying direction and thus takes care that the triple-ply structure, also in case of curved seams, remains closed and is sewn correctly.

  • Patent number: 5189967
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for sewing a label to a piece of fabric. The label is passed through a guiding channel until it is detected by a label sensor activating an air nozzle. The air stream ejected therefrom drives the label into a take-over station. The latter is constituted by two grippers arranged at a defined distance from each other and each consists of a lower and an upper gripper jaw clamping the edges of the label therebetween. Feed cylinders shift the grippers with the label held by them to the sewing site. The distance between the grippers can be varied with the aid of a threaded spindle assembly so that handling of labels of different sizes is possible.

  • Patent number: 5154129
Abstract: An automatic sewing machine for sewing chain stitch seams is suitable both for forward sewing and for reverse sewing. For forming chaining loops, a chaining tongue is to be disposed in the region of the needle. During forward sewing, the chaining tongue disposed on the needle plate is directed in the feeding direction. This chaining tongue (32) for forward sewing, just as a chaining tongue (34) for reverse sewing, is formed on a disk-shaped tongue carrier (30) which is embedded in the needle plate (22). The disk-shaped tongue carrier (30) is brought, via an adjusting mechanism (40 to 57), into one of two defined operational positions corresponding to forward sewing and reverse sewing, respectively. A sewing material feeder is formed as a gripper-type feeder having upper a lower gripping structures (60, 62). The lower gripping structure (60) is guided in a guide way (36) of the needle plate across the tongue carrier (30).

  • Patent number: 5054409
Abstract: For laterally aligning a fabric web edge during sewing with a sewing machine (4, 6), a guide means (2) is used which can be moved perpendicularly to the conveying direction of the fabric web (S) in order to gently press the fabric web against an abutment (16) which is designed, for instance, as a driven roller and is capable of producing a variable counter-pressure. The guide means contains a ball chain (18) guided about two chain wheels. The balls are supported on a plastic rope so as to be able to rotate together with the fabric web being conveyed. By rotating the chain wheels, the lower length of the chain (18) and, thus, the fabric web (S) can be shifted laterally so as to obtain the desired aligning effect.
