Abstract: The present invention relates to protective coating formulations, in particular to transparent abrasion-resistant and scratch-resistant coatings on transparent thermoplastic polymers, which coatings essentially consist of a hydrolyzed siloxane compound, a dispersion of colloidal silicon dioxide, etherified methylolmelamine, a blocked polyisocyanate, acetic acid and a polysiloxane terminated by hydroxyl groups.

Abstract: An anti-foam composition comprising(a) a dispersion of a silicon dioxide filler in an organopolysiloxane,(b) an emulsifier or dispersant, and(c) at least one water soluble compound selected from the group consisting of(i) a divalent aliphatic alcohol containing 4 to 10 carbon atoms,(ii) a trivalent aliphatic alcohol containing 2 to 10 carbon atoms, and ##STR1## in which R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 each independently is hydrogen, C.sub.1-8 -alkyl or C.sub.1-8 -alkyl-CO-, andn,m,p and r are so chosen that the molecular weight of (c) does not exceed 499.Advantageously, based upon (a) plus (b) plus (c) the composition by weight comprises about 25 to 35% (a), about 8 to 12% (b) and about 53 to 67% (c), the composition additionally containing water in up to about 45% by weight of the entire composition. The composition is more readily water-dispersible and of better anti-foaming action than heretofore.

Abstract: A de-foaming agent comprising by weight about(a) 80 to 100 parts of a polyoxyalkylene-polysiloxane copolymer of the formula:[R.sup.1 Si(OSiR.sub.2).sub.n ].sub.m Z.sub.m-1 (OR.sup.2).sub.m+2,in whichR represents an optionally halogen-substituted alkyl-group with up to 4 carbon atoms,R.sup.1 represents the substituent R or a phenyl radical,R.sup.2 represents a group of the composition ##STR1## Z represents the difunctional unit --O-- or ##STR2## and R.sup.3 denotes a hydrocarbon radical with up to 6 carbon atoms,R.sup.4 denotes independently from one another hydrogen or R.sup.3,n denotes a number between 3 and 40,m denotes a number between 1 and 15,x denotes a number between 0 and 68,y denotes a number between 0 and 52,x+y denotes a number between 1 and 68 andp denotes a number between 2 and 12,and (b) 0.5 to 20 parts of a hydrophobic silicon dioxide.

Abstract: A textile pile-stabilizing impregnating agent comprising a colloidal suspension of silicic acid having SiO.sub.2 units and organosilsesquioxanes having units of the formula RSiO.sub.3/2 wherein R is an alkyl or aryl radical with up to 7 carbon atoms. It is produced by adding a silane of the formula RSi(OR').sub.3, together with a silane of the formula Si(OR').sub.4, wherein R is an alkyl or aryl radical with up to 7 carbon atoms, and R' is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, to a mixture of water and a surface-active agent containing a buffer, the amount of silanes added being about 5 to 22% of the total weight of the addition plus mixture.

Abstract: A pigment of a magnetic metal or alloy thereof carrying, in about 0.2 to 30% of the weight of the metal or alloy, a coating of at least one member selected from the group consisting of an ortho-silicic acid ester, a hydrolyzate thereof and a condensation product thereof. Optionally it also carries a corrosion inhibitor. The coated pigment is produced by suspension of the untreated pigment in a liquid medium containing the ortho-silicic acid ester or derivative thereof, and optionally the corrosion inhibitor, followed by separation and drying at 50.degree. to 250.degree. C. The resulting pigment is non-pyrophoric and of high performance properties suitable for use in magnetic recording media.

Abstract: A coating composition to improve the abrasion and scratch resistance of plastics such as polycarbonate, consisting essentially of about(A) 10-40% by weight of a partially hydrolyzed siloxane compound which is obtained by hydrolyzing in water at about 50.degree.-80.degree. C. over a period of about 1-12 hours at least one of(a) a hydrocarbon-trialkoxysilane of the formula R'Si(OR").sub.3 whereinR' is an alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms or a phenyl or vinyl group, andR" is an alkyl group with 1 to 4 carbon atoms,(b) a co-condensation product of (a) and about 1 to 40% by weight of a phenyl- or vinyl-trialkoxysilane, the alkoxy group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms,(c) a co-condensation product of 1 mol of (a) and 0.05 to 1 mol of a tetraalkoxysilane, in which the alkoxy group contains 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and(d) a co-condensation product of 1 mol of (a) and 0.05 to 1 of a dialkyldialkoxysilane, in which the alkyl and alkoxy groups contain 1 to 4 carbon atoms.

Abstract: Graft polymers having improved low temperature characteristics of optionally partially or completely saponified vinyl ester homopolymers or copolymers as graft substrates and grafted siloxane units.

Abstract: Polycarbodiimide is present as a solid phase in a liquid polyorganosiloxane, preferably being formed therein by mixing a polyisocyanate with the polysiloxane followed by a carbodiimidization catalyst. If the polyorganosiloxane contains hydroxyl groups it can be chemically bonded to the polycarbodiimide. The composition can be cured to solid plastic masses of superior properties by adding a curing agent for the polysiloxane.

Abstract: Polyurethane is present as a solid phase in a liquid polyorganosiloxane, preferably being formed therein by mixing a polyhydroxy-containing material with the polysiloxane followed by addition of a polyisocyanate. If the polyorganosiloxane contains hydroxyl groups it can be chemically bonded to the polyurethane. The composition can be cured to solid plastic masses of superior properties by adding a curing agent for the polysiloxane.
