The cover portions are fitted to a core portion to form the upholstery cover therearound. Defined between the outside surface of the core portion and the inside surface of the upholstery cover is a defined gap into which a coating material is introduced. The coating material on hardening joins the upholstery cover to the core portion.

The flank (8) of the major cutting edge (4a) is perpendicular to the supporting surface (3) and the flank (9) of the minor cutting edge (5a) falls back therefrom inclined at an angle with the supporting surface (3).

    Abstract: A process for the production of a foam-backed cushion portion with a cover covering same on all sides includes turning the cover inside out and applying the cover over a first mold portion of blade-like configuration with its outward surface over the first mold portion, arranged two second mold portions at respective sides of the first mold portion at a spacing therefrom, thereby forming at least one mold cavity between the first mold portion and the second mold portions. A reaction mixture is then introduced into the mold cavity to fill same with foam forming foam backing portions on the cover. The mold is then opened and the foam-backed cover is removed from the first mold portion and turned inside out to provide a foam-backed cushion portion, the cover which was disposed on the inward side of the foam material coming to lie on the outward side of the foam-backed cushion portion.

    Abstract: A method of making an upholstered element wherein a cover is introduced into a mold to which it tightly adheres. The mold is closed by means of a first lid, following which a soft-foam reaction mixture is introduced into a first hollow chamber of the mold closed off by the first lid. At the end of the reaction, the soft-foam reaction mixture fills the first hollow chamber and forms a soft-foam body. Subsequently, the first lid is removed from the mold and replaced by a second lid, the soft-foam body remaining in the mold. Between the soft-foam body in the mold and the second lid, a second hollow space is formed. Subsequently, a rigid-foam reaction mixture is introduced into the second hollow chamber, which at the end of the reaction fills the second hollow chamber and forms a rigid-foam body.

    Abstract: A process for the production of a foam-backed article in which a covering is formed by sewing several parts together along joining seams and the outer side of the cover is laid onto a preliminary mold. A one-piece airtight film is positioned so that it overlies the whole of the covering and is then applied against the film and a peripheral edge portion of the film is sealed against the preliminary mold. The vacuum is applied to the interior of the preliminary mold to pull and bond the film to the inner side of the covering which is thereafter removed, turned inside out, and applied into a thermoforming mold in which the foam backing is formed.

    Abstract: In a process and apparatus for the production of a cushion element with a cover means enclosing same, at least one cover means is clamped with edge portions thereof between first and second clamping frames in such a way that the cover means defines a space therewithin. The clamping frames with the cover means clamped thereby are then held between first and second mold portions, with the cover means disposed in the mold cavity defined by the co-operation of the clamping frames and the mold portions. The cover means is drawn by suction against the mold cavity surface and a reaction mixture is then introduced into the space defined by the cover means within the mold cavity, through at least one feed opening. After reaction of the mixture the mold portions are separated and the cushion element with cover thereon from the mold.

    Abstract: An apparatus for producing seat or backrest cushions from plastic foam in which the hardness of the cushion varies in different regions of the cushion. The components for making the different plastic foam mixture are first mixed in a mixing head, and then, depending on the desired hardness of the respective parts of the cushion, the respective mixture is then passed from the mixing head into a mold corresponding to the configuration of the cushion to be produced. The apparatus comprises a mixing head which is stationary in relation to the mold during operation of the process, and communicates with a distributor which opens into the mold and which deflects the respective foam mixture issuing from the mixing head into the designated regions of the mold.
