  • Patent number: 5194311
Abstract: A seat cushion section with a fiber core is elastically deformable and combined with a plastically deformable shock absorber seat section to form a seat structure, for example for an aircraft passenger seat. The fiber core of the cushion section has fibers therein which are substantially continuous or uninterrupted within the core volume because each fiber has only two ends and extends otherwise uninterrupted throughout the core volume between these two ends so that any pin effect of fiber ends sticking out of the cushion is minimized. The shock absorber seat section includes plastically deformable elements, such as honeycomb cells, for protecting a passenger during a crash.

  • Patent number: 5039168
Abstract: In a belt strap for a restraint system for restraiing a passenger in a vehicle seat in the event of a collision, the belt strap includes regions which mechanically absorb energy. Such a seat belt includes elements for increasing the contact surface of the belt strap with the passenger's body so that the force transmitted to the passenger's body in the event of a collision is reduced. The belt may include colored material which discolors over time or plastically deformable colored threads to indicate if the belt's elasticity has decayed due to aging or due to over-extension of the belt. The belt has a modulus of elasticity which varies across its width so that the belt edges roll away from the passenger in the event of a collision. An information label indicating the expiration date of the usable duty lifetime of the safety belt may be provided.

  • Patent number: 4993666
Abstract: In a pivotable seat especially for a flight attendant in an aircraft, the backrest and the seat part are constructed to be pivotable together about an approximately vertical axis when the seat part is pivoted about an approximately horizontal axis into an upright position. The seat is secured to a carrying structure of the aircraft. The seat plate (25) and the backrest carrier plate (27) are milled parts. A spring is activated by tilting the seat part (2) into an upright position, whereby the seat 1 is biased into a recess (15) for storage. For pivoting the seat out of the use position into the recess (15) during non-use, only the locking of the seat part must be released and the seat part tilts itself into the vertical position, whereby the mentioned spring is activated for pivoting the seat into the recess (15) and locking it automatically in the recess.

  • Patent number: 4832404
Abstract: A seat for a flight attendant in an aircraft is constructed to be secured to a supporting inner cabin wall. The seat unit includes a seat section tiltably supported in a mounting. The backrest unit includes a backrest cushion with a head cushion. A safety belt system, cooperates with both units, which are preassembled ready for installation. Thus, the conventional frame of the seat is avoided, whereby weight, costs, and space advantages are achieved. It is especially advantageous to provide a double seating arrangement with the seats facing in opposite directions.

  • Patent number: 4799632
Abstract: A vehicle seat, especially for attendants in an aircraft is constructed as a double seat. The seat is equipped with seat cushions on opposite sides of a frame made of two posts interconnected by a cross-member. The seats are preferably hinged to opposite frame sides so that one or the other or both seats can be used.
