  • Publication number: 20090192309
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved process for preparing triallyl cyanurate (TAC) by reacting cyanuric chloride with allyl alcohol in the presence of an alkali metal acid acceptor and in the absence of an organic solvent other than allyl alcohol. According to the invention, TAC is obtained in over 99% purity with an APHA colour number below 10 in a yield of over 90% when 3.9 to 6.0 mol of allyl alcohol and 3.0 to 3.2 equivalents of acid acceptor are used per mole of cyanuric chloride, cyanuric chloride and acid acceptor are added simultaneously or successively to anhydrous or at least 50% by weight aqueous allyl alcohol, and the reaction is performed in one or more stages at a temperature in the range of ?5 to +50° C.

  • Patent number: 6184414
Abstract: Process for producing ammonium-2-hydroxy-4-(methylthio)-butyrate, mixtures containing the same in liquid form and their use. In order to produce ammonium-2-hydroxy-4-methylthio-n-butyrate and mixtures containing the same with a remarkable fluidity and a very low oligomer proportion by a process based on exclusively “liquid” steps, the reaction mixture is treated with a water-immiscible or partially water-miscible inert solvent, until a first organic extract and a first aqueous raffinate are obtained, and the first organic extract is decomposed into a second organic extract and a second aqueous raffinate by treating it with ammonia and phase separation. Re-extraction of MHA as MHAAS is carried out in the second aqueous raffinate, causing salt formation, and MHAAS is isolated from the second aqueous raffinate. This compound is useful as feedstuff supplement and as methionine substitute.

  • Patent number: 5847207
Abstract: Known processes for producing 2-hydroxy-4-methylthiobutyric acid (MHA) use a liquid-liquid extraction or a combined liquid/liquid and solid/liquid phase separation to isolate MHA from a reaction mixture produced by hydrolysing MMP-cyanhydrine. These processes are either costly or produce waste that is difficult to dispose of. These disadvantages are eliminated by isolating MHA by solid/liquid separation. The reaction mixture is evaporated until a MHA-containing salt residue with little or no residual water is obtained the MHA-containing, salt residue is treated with an organic solvent to produce a suspension, solid components are separated from the thus obtained suspension until a MHA-containing solution is obtained, the organic solvent is removed from the MHA-containing solution until a MHA residue is obtained and if required the MHA residue is then conditioned by water admixture. Besides high quality MHA, this process produces marketable crystalline ammonium sulphate and/or hydrogenated ammonium sulphate.

  • Patent number: 4307037
Abstract: The invention is directed to a process for the production of iminodiacetonitrile by reaction of hexamethylenetetramine with hydrogen cyanide in acidic aqueous mediums. In this process the pH during the reaction which is 5.5 to 7.5 at the beginning is progressively lowered, altogether around 0.5 to 3.5 units and free formaldehyde is present only to a slight extent. Through this and in contrast to the known processes the formation of byproducts is suppressed and iminodiacetonitrile is produced directly in very good yields and sufficiently pure for further use.
