  • Patent number: 6398762
Abstract: A syringe has a syringe body having an outer end, a needle holder on the outer end, a needle fixed on the needle holder so that liquid in the body can be expressed through the needle, and a cap removably fitted to the body over the needle holder and enclosing the needle holder and needle. A flexible envelope engaged over the needle has an inner end fixed to the needle holder and an outer end adapted to be easily pierced by the needle. The envelope is compressible parallel to the needle. The envelope is generally cylindrical and formed as a cuff, for instance with annular corrugations allowing it compress axially very easily.

  • Patent number: 6310318
Abstract: Glass tubes are fed one at a time from a supply to a station. Each of the tubes is rotated in the station about a longitudinal axis of the tube in the station and is simultaneously pressed axially against a fixed stop. A laser beam is directed at the rotating tube in the station at a location along the tube offset from the stop to melt the tube at the location and cut from the tube a section lying between the location and the stop. After cutting from the tube, the tube section is transversely displaced onto a conveyor and transported away from the station by the conveyor. Then the tube in the station is advanced axially into engagement with the stop and the steps of rotating, cutting, and so on are repeated until the tube is exhausted.

  • Patent number: 6229314
Abstract: A syringe subassembly comprised of a tubular syringe body having a front end provided with a forwardly projecting needle and fitted over the needle with a cap of a dielectric material is tested by juxtaposing an outer electrode with the cap, juxtaposing an inner electrode with the needle, applying a high electrical voltage across the electrodes, monitoring current flow between the electrodes, and rejecting the syringe subassembly if the monitored current flow exceeds a predetermined level. The cap is normally made of a plastic and has a higher dielectric constant than the gas surrounding the subassembly in the test station, normally air.

  • Patent number: 6027492
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for creating a vein access, particularly on the human body, wherein at first the area of the skin surface (1) surrounding the vein access is disinfected, than the epiderm (3) is penetrated and the vein (4) opened and wherein finally a cannula part (5) is inserted in the vein (4). Further the invention relates to a device for implementing the method. Thereby the penetration of the epiderm (3) and/or the opening of the vein (4) are performed by a cutting device (6) operating with electromagnetic radiation.

  • Patent number: 5785691
Abstract: A syringe assembly has a syringe body adapted to be filled with an injectable liquid and having an annular neck defining an axis forming an axially outwardly open outlet and a needle insert fitting in and blocking the outlet and formed with an axially throughgoing passage so that a needle can be inserted axially through the passage of the insert into the body. A retaining collar engaged around the neck holds the insert in the outlet and a plug engaged in the passage fits over the retaining collar. A retaining ring fixed around the collar at the neck holds the collar on the neck and has an annular and axially outwardly directed end edge. A cup-shaped safety cap bearing axially inward on the plug has an annular and axially inwardly directed end edge confronting the retaining-ring edge and spaced axially therefrom by a gap which is bridged by a plurality of angularly spaced frangible webs unitarily formed with the ring and with the cap and extending from the cap edge to the ring edge.

  • Patent number: 5779753
Abstract: A solid workpiece, e.g. a glass tube, is shaped by a focussed beam of visible light or light in an adjacent portion of the electromagnetic spectrum in a material removal, cutting or drilling operation and is heat-treated or remelted or shaped in a plastic state by heating that second beam which is less focussed or even divergent. The beams derive from a common source, a CO.sub.2 laser, and pass through a splitting deflecting system so that the beams can be directed simultaneously either parallel to one another or with an inclination to one another at the same or different regions of the workpiece which is held in a holder capable of both rotating the workpiece and translating same.

  • Patent number: 5377815
Abstract: A conveyor system has a carousel rotatable about an axis in steps and having an outer periphery along which loading, unloading, and treatment stations are spaced and a drive for rotating the carousel about the axis in steps. A plurality of fixed segments spaced along the periphery each have a straight outer edge and a plurality of movable segments spaced along the periphery are interleaved with the fixed segments and each have a straight outer edge and a pair of ends. Respective pivots secured between one of the ends of each of the movable segments and the carousel allow movement of each of the movable segments between an inner position with its outer edge nonparallel to the outer edges of adjacent fixed segments and an outer position with its outer edge parallel to the outer edge of a one of the adjacent fixed segments.

  • Patent number: 5320603
Abstract: A hypodermic syringe has a tubular body extending along and centered on an axis and having at an axial front end a small-diameter collar formed with a front radially outwardly open seat and, axially spaced backward therefrom, a rear radially outwardly open seat. An end piece provided with a deformable plug fittable sealingly in the collar is adapted to receive a needle. Mounting fingers extending axially back from the end piece have rear ends that engage in a front position of the end piece in the front seat and in a rear position of the end piece in the rear seat. The fingers are of such an axial length that the plug is fitted snugly into the collar in the rear position but is not snugly fitted in the collar in the front position. When the end piece is in the front position a medicament in the body can be lyophilized and when in the rear position the syringe is plugged.

  • Patent number: 5139490
Abstract: A hypodermic-syringe assembly comprises a hard tubular body centered on an axis and having an axial front end formed with a radially inwardly projecting annular ridge and an axial rear end, a piston axially slidable in the body and normally adjacent the rear end, and a soft plug fitted in the front end in tight engagement with the ridge. The plug is formed with an axially rearwardly open blind passage having a front floor, and a front face defining with the passage floor a relatively thin membrane. Thus a needle can be poked through the membrane.

  • Patent number: 5135496
Abstract: A hypodermic syringe assembly has a hollow body having a neck centered on an axis, an elastomeric plug fitted in the neck and having an end projecting axially forward from the neck, a stiffening sleeve fitted over the plug and neck and having a collar fitting around the projecting plug end and itself projecting axially therepast, an elastomeric stopper fitted into the collar, and a protective cap fitted over the plug, sleeve, and stopper. A destructible connection between the cap and the sleeve retains the cap in place on the body over the plug, sleeve, and stopper. This cap is therefore only removable from the body by destruction of the connection. The protective cap is basically cylindrical and centered on the axis and has a front end wall generally transverse of the axis and an opposite rear end edge and the destructible connection extends annularly between the end edge of the cap and the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4508750
Abstract: As in the case of the irradiation of plane materials, the production of an inert atmosphere for the radiation-curable coating plays a decisive role with regard to the operating costs and the quality of the resulting product in the case of the curing of shaped parts. The present invention shows that the production of an inert atmosphere with the aid of a vacuum/inert gas lock with subsequent feeding through the lock into a radiation chamber constitutes an inexpensive means of producing an inert atmosphere for shaped parts, since flushing of the radiation chamber 8 to 10 times before each irradiation operation, as was necessary in the past, is dispensed with.

  • Patent number: 4112307
Abstract: An electron beam source with an electron exit window which is connected thereto and which essentially consists of the window frame, of a support grid, optionally provided with cooling lines, for the foil permeable to electrons and of the foil permeable to electrons. The grid is formed by one or more bridge elements each in the shape of a double comb formed by milling slots to extend inwardly from each of a pair of opposite side edges of a substantially rectangular metal plate to terminate at a main bridge element extending substantially centrally of the plate and substantially parallel to the opposite edges. The bridge elements are secured to the window frame solely by disengageable mechanical fastening elements, and no welding or brazing, either in forming the bridge elements or in securing them to the window frame, are involved.
