    Abstract: A second reaction medium is introduced into a first reaction medium flowing in a flow channel and the reaction media are intensively mixed. The second reaction medium (which may be one or more reaction media) is introduced at a plurality or even a multiplicity of positions that are distributed over a cross section of the flow channel. Turbulence flow is induced in the first reaction medium (which may also be one or more reaction media) at the positions where the second reaction medium is introduced. As a result, the intense mixing of the reaction media with one another takes place directly at the locations where the second reaction medium is introduced into the flow channel.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for producing a metallic catalyst layer or coating which serves for effectuating the removal of hydrogen from a gas mixture containing hydrogen and oxygen. The catalyst layer itself which is porous, comprises a metal, such as palladium (Pd) or platinum (Pt), or alloys of these metals, which catalytically influence the oxidation of hydrogen. The metal or the metal alloy is applied as a catalyst layer or coating onto a carrier material or substrate by either plasma spraying or flame spraying together with a jet of an inert gas. The present invention also provides a catalyst through the intermediary of a catalyst layer which is produced in accordance with the process of the instant invention.

    Abstract: An arrangement for the elimination or removal of hydrogen from a hydrogenntaining gas mixture through the intermediary of foils which are fastened within a closable container, wherein the material of the foils produces an elimination of hydrogen, whereby the foils are so arranged at such spacings with respect to each other as to form interspaces between the foils which can be streamed through by the gas mixture. At least one supporting member having the foils adhering thereto is arranged within the container in such a manner that the foils will extend into the surroundings upon opening of the container. Especially suitable for this purpose are spirally-wound supporting members which will extend out of the container under the effect of gravity or under the action of a mechanical spring force, and in this manner provide a direct contact between the effective foil material and the explosively dangerous gas mixture.

    Abstract: A foil material for the storage of hydrogen in materials capable of bearing hydrogen, i.e. a hydrogen storageable material. Through the intermediary of a heat-conductive bond between a metal having hydrogen storage capability and a substrate, which is adapted for the absorption and conducting off of the reaction heat produced during hydrogen exchange, and on which the hydrogen storageable metal is applied as a storage layer, there is afforded a rapid heat exchange during the loading and unloading of the storage layer. Employed for this purpose is the heat capacity of the substrate. The material for the substrate and the volume of the latter is so selected that the reaction to heat is exchangeable with the substrate of the storage layer without the need for ancillary heat exchangers; in effect, can be taken up by or given up from the substrate. The storage layer has its exposed surface covered with a protective layer which acts in a corrosion-inhibiting manner and which is permeable to hydrogen.

    Abstract: The activation of a mass of metal granules capable of storing hydrogen with the formation of hydride in a pressure vessel, instead of having to be activated before use by repeated heating in a hydrogen atmosphere followed by cooling and evacuation before the next heating, is activated in the pressure vessel used for storage by first heating a small portion of the granulate to the necessary activation temperature and then allowing the heat developed by the activation of that portion to produce the activation of the remainder of the granulate. It is found that it thus possible to provide complete activation with only one heating step. The small portion that is first activated may be a part of the granulate that is of a different composition that is easier to activate, for example, LaNi.sub.5, which can be activated at room temperature, or iron-titanium alloys that are capable of activation under 100.degree. C.

    Abstract: Oxygen is incorporated into an FeTiMn granulate in an amount sufficient to form double oxides of titanium and manganese therein, but insufficient to form oxides containing iron. As the result, the granules are embrittled, favoring the formation of microcracks to such an extent that activation of the granules by hydrogen takes place, after initial evacuation, at room temperature, after which the granulate can be used in a pressure container for storage and discharge of hydrogen and/or deuterium over long periods of operation. The oxygen content is to be kept in an atomic ratio with reference to the manganese content of the alloy lying between 1:3 and 1:3.5 and the ratio of titanium not bound by formation of a metal oxide to the iron should be equal to or greater than 1:1 on an atomic basis, with the FeTi content of the alloy constituting 90 to 95% by weight of the alloy.
