  • Patent number: 8531106
Abstract: In a high-pressure discharge lamp including a ceramic discharge vessel, a secure connection between a hybrid antenna as starting aid and a leadthrough of the discharge vessel is provided by virtue of the fact that a means between leadthrough and extension limits the ohmic resistance between leadthrough and hybrid antenna preferably to at most 100?.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 9, 2011
Date of Patent: September 10, 2013
    Assignee: Osram AG
Inventors: Markus Demmert, Andreas Hohlfeld, Helmut Weske, Ingmar Wieler, Ludger Wilken

  • Patent number: 5625256
Abstract: A ceramic discharge vessel (6) for a high-pressure discharge lamp (1) made from a sintered body of optically translucent polycrystalline alumina ceramic which is doped with only 100-800 ppm MgO, only 200-1200 ppm ZrO.sub.2 and only 10-300 ppm Y.sub.2 O.sub.3 (by weight). This improves the loading capacity and operating characteristics of the vessel and of the lamp.

  • Patent number: 5079479
Abstract: To eliminate a holding frame for a starting wire (20) outside of an elongd discharge vessel (1), the starting wire (20) is directly connected to one of the electrode leads (4, 5), typically niobium tubes, by a bimetal strip (21) which is, preferably, bent in stepped form or Z shape. Under cold conditions, the strip or wire (20) is in engagement with the outside of the discharge vessel (1) to assist in starting, due to its electrical connection via the bimetal strip (21) with one of the electrodes; upon heating of the lamp, the bimetal strip (21) will lift the wire (20) off engagement with the discharge vessel (1) and thus prevent deterioration thereof.
