  • Patent number: 9395276
Abstract: A method and system for detecting defects to railway wagon wheels and to the rail. A method for detecting a wheel flat, or an event that may cause a wheel flat to develop on a railway wagon, including the steps of a) monitoring at least the longitudinal and vertical acceleration of said railway wagon, and b) concluding that a wheel flat has developed, or that there is a risk of developing a wheel flat, if a specific acceleration pattern is monitored, said pattern comprising a longitudinal acceleration above a first threshold followed by a vertical acceleration above a second threshold. A system for detecting a wheel flat of at least one wheel of a railway wagon and the use of an acceleration sensor mounted on the sprung part of a railway wagon for estimating the wheel flat size of a wheel of the railway wagon.

  • Publication number: 20040215615
Abstract: A method for verifying a person's identity using biometric data, comprises recording current biometric data that is input into a sensor by the person, and comparing previously recorded biometric reference data with the current biometric data in order to check whether an alignment condition has been fulfilled. If such is not the case, an indication is produced, on the basis of a result of the comparison, that the person is to change the input to the sensor in order to improve the alignment between the current biometric data and the biometric reference data. It is preferably also calculated and indicated how the user is to change the input. A computer program product and a device are also described.

  • Publication number: 20040175023
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and apparatuses used for checking a person's identity by means of specific features, so-called minutiae points. The invention is based on the idea of using a fingerprint-constant reference coordinate system so as to make it possible to compare the absolute coordinates for one feature at a time when checking the person's identity. The location of the fingerprint-constant reference coordinate system is determined by means of alignment information which may consist of, for instance, alignment features and one or more partial areas of an image of a reference fingerprint.
