Abstract: A method and an apparatus to increase conformance of a storage implementation of a data set to a storage policy are presented. In one embodiment, the method includes performing a conformance check of a data set state and an associated data management policy. The method includes identifying a set of tasks that can be performed to increase conformance of the data set state to the associated policy, and generating a task list using tasks from the set of tasks. The method further includes outputting an indication of the task list to a user and accepting from the user an approval of the task list before generating and executing a second task list.

Abstract: A system and method administers virtual servers executing on one or more physical storage systems. One or more virtual servers are created and associated with a management group. An administrator is then granted permissions to the group. Upon logging into management software, only information relating to the virtual servers associated with the group are displayed to the administrator, thereby limiting access to information related to other virtual servers and/or physical storage systems.

Abstract: A storage management application is provided to manage and monitor virtual storage servers in a hosting storage server. In addition, in order to facilitate virtual storage server management and monitoring, a virtual storage server administrator role is provided. The role is allowed to access details of the virtual storage server assigned to the role, but not the details of the hosting server and other virtual servers.

Abstract: In a method and system for monitoring storage resources, storage containers are monitored to identify their individual normal usage patterns over time. Based on a storage container's normal usage pattern, limits may be established for determining whether its rate of change over a predetermined amount of time (i.e., usage change rate) is normal or abnormal based on a mean and a standard deviation of historical usage rate values. The limits are periodically updated to ensure that the limits remain indicative of the storage container's current usage pattern, as usage patterns may vary over the life of a storage container.

Abstract: A method for calculating computing resource use charges for a data center consumer entity is disclosed. The data center consumer entity accesses one or more of a plurality of computing resources in a data center. The method includes retrieving usage data of each of the plurality of computing resources. The usage data is retrieved for a selected period of use of each of the plurality of computing resources by the data center consumer entity. Each of the plurality of computing resources includes at least one of a CPU, a disk, a Network Interface Card (NIC), and a memory. The method further includes retrieving a rate plan data for the data center consumer entity and retrieving per unit charge, base rate, and rate factor for each of the plurality of computing resources. Further, a sum of a sum of multiplications of billed units of each of the plurality of computing resources by per unit charge, base rate, and rate factor is calculated. The billed units include one of actual used units or reserved units.
