Abstract: A plate type rotational centrifugal separator for separating one or more components of a feed stream includes a rotatable first outer carrier and a rotatable second inner carrier coaxially arranged in the first outer carrier. The first outer carrier supports one or more curved plates which are flexibly connected to the second inner carrier. A feeding arrangement disposed at one end of the separator supplies a feed stream to be separated, and a discharging arrangement disposed at the opposite end of the separator discharges separated streams. Confined spaces are defined between adjacent curved plates and the first outer and second inner carrier for separating the feed stream under influence of centrifugal forces. The first outer carrier is axially removable from the second inner carrier for removing components collected on the plates.

Abstract: Method for isolating biomass from an aqueous medium comprising cellular material comprising the steps of: 1) providing an aqueous medium comprising cellular materialalgae; followed by 2) subjecting the cellular materialalgae in said aqueous medium to lysis, whereby a lipid fraction comprising algal lipids and a solids fraction comprising algal solid material are formed, which fractions are dispersed in said aqueous medium; 3) separating at least part of said lipid fraction from the aqueous medium; 4) separating at least part of said solids fraction from the aqueous medium; wherein steps 3) and 4), and preferably also step 2), are performed in a single apparatus. The method is particularly suitable for isolating lipids from algae.

Abstract: A device for separating one or more components from a fluid, such as gas, water, oil and so on, which device is provided with a closed drum-shaped first carrier which is rotatable driven on a shaft and has means for feeding respectively discharging the fluid, wherein a second carrier is arranged coaxially in the first carrier, on which second carrier are arranged a large number of flexible elements which extend radially from the second carrier as far as the first carrier, and the feed means are provided close to the one end of the second carrier and the discharge means close to the other end of the second carrier, so that when the fluid flows through the device a layered separation of the components results along a flexible element.

Abstract: A device for separating a component from a fluid includes a closed carrier drum having a fluid inlet and a fluid outlet. A filter element is positioned in the carrier drum. The filter element has a top face and a bottom face and a cylindrical wall extending therebetween. A fluid duct is positioned between the top and bottom faces of the filter element along a longitudinal axis of the filter element. The longitudinal axis of the filter element is positioned coaxially with the longitudinal axis of the carrier drum. The filter element and the carrier drum are rotatable about their coaxially positioned longitudinal axes.
