Patent number: 5588234Abstract: The identification device for animals or articles is internally provided with an electronic identification circuit enabling automatic remote detection of the code of the identification device. The identification device comprises a member comprising the identification circuit and a member serving for attachment. The member comprising the identification circuit is made of hard material. The external shape of this member, starting from a base which in operation abuts against the article or the animal, narrows substantially taperingly and smoothly to an end which in operation is located remote from the article or animal, so that this member cannot be gripped by another animal between its teeth or be caught on obstacles or other objects.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1993Date of Patent: December 31, 1996Assignee: N.V. Patent number: 5284479Abstract: An implanter for implanting an implant (3) in an animate being (14) includes a housing (15) on which the inner end of a hollow injection needle (2) is mounted, a plunger (6) mounted in the housing and adapted to extend into the hollow needle through the inner end of the needle, and a locking element (8, 32) for engaging with and retaining the plunger (6) against the force of compression spring (7) in a position where the plunger extends into the hollow needle for a predetermined distance. The locking element is part of a release device (9, 10; 30, 31, 33) which abuts the body (14) of the animate being when the injection needle has been introduced into the body to a predetermined depth to automatically unlock the locking element. The plunger is then forced by the spring (7) against an implant (3) disposed in operation in the injection needle for retaining the implant in the body when the injection needle is retracted from the body.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1992Date of Patent: February 8, 1994Assignee: N.V. Nederlandsche Apparatenfabriek NedapInventor: Hendrik J. de Jong

Patent number: 5105763Abstract: A method of identifying an animal from a distance by a miniature responder includes implanting a responder (1) in the form of an injectable capsule, subcutaneously and laterally of the front part of the head of the animal between an eye (3) and the sensitive (mostly bald) nose tip (4), at the side (5) of the upper jaw (6). An apparatus for feeding, baiting and/or watering animals having a miniature responder implanted therein according to this method includes a detection coil (12) disposed in close proximity to a feeding, baiting, or watering device (11) so as to be poorly accessible to the animal, the device having a shape and/or position for guiding the animal's nose in use to the device (11) in a natural manner so that the miniature responder is well-oriented and well-centered relative to the detection coil (12).Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 1991Date of Patent: April 21, 1992Assignee: N.V. Patent number: 5008660Abstract: An electromagnetic detection system comprises a transmitter-receiver apparatus coupled to at least one antenna element to form an electromagnetic interrogation field in an interrogation zone defined at least in part by physical means. A plurality of responders is capable of generating a detectable signal under the influence of an interrogation field. According to the invention, at least one antenna element is a suitably formed structural element forming part of the physical means.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1989Date of Patent: April 16, 1991Assignee: N.V. Nederlandsche Apparatenfabriek NedapInventor: Hendrik J. de Jong

Patent number: 4847592Abstract: In a detection plate, an electronic circuit capable of being activated by a suitable interrogation field to generate a pre-determined signal is provided with pin-shaped attachment means arranged so that the unauthorized detachment of the attachment means results in the interruption of an electrical conductor forming part of said electronic circuit. In the embodiment the detection plate is an earmark for animals and the attachment means includes a pin integral with the plate. The pin has a point which can be pushed through an animal's ear and the device can then be fastened on the other side of the ear. The pin includes a conductive loop which extends into the point and is connected to the electronic circiut of the plate.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 1988Date of Patent: July 11, 1989Assignee: N.V.
