  • Patent number: 4938330
Abstract: In a fluid-friction clutch with a disc stack actuable by an adjusting piston and having resilient spacer parts, the viscous fluid escapes from the shearing gaps between adjacent discs of the stack into a compensating chamber located radially on the outside in relation to the disc stack, in order to ensure a completely torque-free lifting position of the clutch when the adjusting piston is not actuated.

  • Patent number: 4794539
Abstract: A propulsion control system for motor vehicles for maintaining stable driving conditions, having a computer unit for determining a desired value or a tolerance range for the rotational speed difference of the front wheels or of the lateral acceleration or of the yaw velocity, and having a comparator unit in which this desired value or tolerance range is compared with the measured actual value, in which case the difference between the actual value of the desired value or tolerance range is used as a control signal for the brakes of the wheels and/or for a power control element of the vehicle engine.

  • Patent number: 4681185
Abstract: Apparatus for the automatic engagement and disengagement of the drive components of a motor vehicle, particularly of the drive of at least one additional axle and/or of locks for auxiliary gear and/or differential gear. The apparatus has sensors for sensing the rotary speeds of the wheels and the steering angle of the vehicle and a control unit which activates the drive components individually, simultaneously or in a given sequence as a function of: The travelling speed; the vehicle acceleration; the slip of the wheels; and the movement condition of the vehicle as a function of the steering angle. The apparatus also has an adaptively operating matching electronic system for accounting for the rotary speeds of the wheels and for the steering angle. An advantage of this apparatus is the engaging of required drive components automatically with narrow limit values and tolerances in necessary situations.

  • Patent number: 4630803
Abstract: A suspension-strut mounting for installation between a shock-absorber strut or spring strut and a vehicle body spring-supported with respect to the axles, with at least one connecting element having elastically resilient and vibration damping properties which is connected both with the body as also with the piston rod of a shock-absorber of the shock-absorber strut or spring-strut; an additional vibration damper is provided in parallel with the connecting element.

  • Patent number: 4457189
Abstract: A linkage for operating a control element of an internal combustion engine is constructed in a manner such that a change in the inclination of the position of the internal combustion engine has no effect, or merely an intentional, minor effect on the relative position of a linkage operated control element for the internal combustion engine. In accordance with a first embodiment, by appropriately dimensioning and positioning a regulating lever along the longitudinal shaft directly operating the control element, rotation of the longitudinal shaft, during inclination of the engine, is matched, or caused to differ by a predetermined amount, so as to maintain a desired relationship between the position of the control element relative to the engine.

  • Patent number: 4448441
Abstract: This invention relates to an independent front axle suspension for passenger cars. The suspension possesses a lower guide member, which is set transversely to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle and is flexibly coupled to the vehicle body, and a shock absorber strut, or spring strut, which is located between this guide member and the vehicle body, on which strut a wheel carrier is retained. This wheel carrier is able to move about a steering axis and is coupled to a steering track rod extending in the transverse direction of the vehicle. The total mass of the front axle suspension is capable of vibrating about an instantaneous rotation axis which extends downwards from the upper coupling point of the shock absorber strut, or spring strut. This axis is orientated in space in such a manner that it intersects the axis of the steering track rod, or crosses this axis, lying at least in close proximity thereto.

  • Patent number: 4423883
Abstract: A steering arrangement for motor vehicles wherein two steerable wheels are coupled with a steering gear arm which is connected to a steering column. The steering gear arm is divided into at least two parts with one part of the steering gear arm being associated with each steerable wheel. At least one sun gear is mounted to the steering column which mates with planetary gears of a pair of planetary gear carriers. The planetary gear of each planetary carrier mates with an outside gear which forms a secondary drive for a part of the steering gear segment arm. A locking device is provided in order to enable an alternative locking of the planetary gear and the outside gear.

  • Patent number: 4088939
Abstract: Three sensing coils are located on a vehicle, staggered longitudinally in known distances from each other along the vehicle. The sensing coils pick up the field of a conductor buried in the surface over which the vehicle is to operate and energized with a-c at an audio frequency. From the three output signals derived from the three coil pairs, the radius of curvature of the guide path is computed and the steering deflection of the steering wheels of the vehicle is controlled by the computed radius of curvature to steer the vehicle along the radius; the computed radius of curvature signal may also be used to control other operating parameters, such as vehicle speed; average coil deviation signals may additionally be introduced into the steering control signal, which operates a steering servo, to additionally compensate for minor deviations of the vehicle from the guide path.
