Patent number: 4586698Abstract: The invention relates to a lateral basin for electromagnetic pumping in a foundry and in particular in a light metal foundry. The pump comprises a magnetic circuit (207) which is locally saturated and which is embedded in the ceramic of the said basin. The electrical excitation winding of the magnetic circuit (208) is located outside the basin, and the circuit is disposed to create a horizontal leakage field through an active portion (204) of a liquid metal turn which, together with electrical current induced in said active portion (204), sets up a magnetic pumping force which is upwardly directed and which urges liquid metal into a duct (206) leading away from the furnace to liquid metal receiving means. The liquid from the furnace (202) supplies the active portion of the liquid metal turn (204) via a passage (205) of height limited by a partition (209). The electromagnetic pumping basin enables almost any casting requirements in a foundry to be supplied with liquid metal.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 1985Date of Patent: May 6, 1986Inventor: Henri Carbonnel

Patent number: 4286926Abstract: The invention relates to a conduction pump for liquid metal. This pump comprises a magnetic circuit for creating a magnetic field in the stream of liquid metal circulating in a pipe, and a turn, filled with liquid metal, for supplying an electric current perpendicular to the magnetic field in the stream of liquid metal. The turn is arranged at the level of the gap zone of the magnetic circuit, perpendicular to the field in this gap, and at least partially surrounds the magnetic circuit so that the electric current is generated in the turn by the circuit. The turn is at least partially formed by the circulation pipe itself. The invention is applied in particular to the conveying of liquid aluminium by pumping.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1979Date of Patent: September 1, 1981Assignee: NovatomeInventors: Richard Deshais, Henri Carbonnel

Patent number: 4119469Abstract: The present invention concerns insulating ceramic substances, passive with respect to corrosive molten metals such as aluminium or steel, having a controlled porosity, withstanding without cracking repeated thermal shocks. Such ceramics are obtained by sintering without charge at a low temperature after addition of a fluoride.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 1977Date of Patent: October 10, 1978Assignee: Groupement pour les Activites Atomiques et AvanceesInventors: Henri Carbonnel, Francois Chaminade

Patent number: 4086097Abstract: Refractory products having remarkable resistance to thermal shocks, comprising 60% of the total weight of ceramic fibres, dispersed in 40% of the total weight of cement, obtained by slow heating up to 800.degree. C after the setting and the stripping. A chemical bond is set up in those conditions between the fibre and the calcium aluminate of the cement. Application to the manufacturing of parts remaining in contact with reactive molten metals.Type: GrantFiled: December 24, 1975Date of Patent: April 25, 1978Assignee: Groupement pour les Activites Atomiques et Avancees "GAAA" S.A.Inventor: Henri Carbonnel

Patent number: 4061176Abstract: Apparatus comprising a crucible, a level-determining tank, a vacuum pump, an injection cylinder, a mould and appropriate interconnecting pipes. Molten metal is kept under vacuum throughout except that in a modification a gas may be deliberately introduced into the mould to provide a surface treatment of the casting.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1976Date of Patent: December 6, 1977Assignee: Groupement pour les Activites Atomiques et Avancees "GAAA" S.A.Inventor: Henri Carbonnel

Patent number: 4030538Abstract: A device for adjusting the quantity of molten metal used in pressure casting has a pump pumping molten metal up from a supply container to a pressure chamber and to a level-determining tank having an adjustable overflow. Hydrostatic pressure balances the levels in the level-determining tank and the pressure chamber so that adjusting the overflow also adjusts the level of metal in the pressure chamber.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1976Date of Patent: June 21, 1977Assignee: Groupement pour les Activities Atomiques et Advancees "GAAA" S.A.Inventor: Henri Carbonnel
