  • Patent number: 6068431
Abstract: The invention relates to a machine tool having a gantry that is movable along an X axis and having a vertical spindle supported by the cross-member of the gantry. The cross-member comprises two beams that are spaced apart in the X axis direction and that have facing inside faces. Two carriages are mounted to slide on said facing faces, on opposite sides of a vertically movable cursor-carrier. The tool-carrier spindle is carried by a cursor mounted to slide on the bottom face of the cursor-carrier and movable along the X axis. Movements of the carriages, of the cursor-carrier and of cursor are under numerical control. The tool-carrier spindle can move in the X axis direction without it being necessary to move the gantry.

  • Patent number: 5839323
Abstract: The invention relates to a moving gantry machine having uprights that are movable relative to each other. The uprights are interconnected by a cross-member made up of two cross-member elements suitable for being moved relative to each other in the limit of a given maximum offset .DELTA. in the displacement direction of the uprights. The displacement of the uprights is controlled by respective independent drive systems X.sub.1 and X.sub.2 under numerical control within the limit of said offset. A third drive system X.sub.3 is provided for displacement between the cross-member elements and is under numerical control with the condition the displacement distance of drive system X.sub.1 +the displacement distance of drive system X.sub.3 =the displacement distance of drive system X.sub.2.

  • Patent number: 5423237
Abstract: A machine tool having torsional compensation for the machine tool support. Generally, a machine tool head is movably mounted on a cross member in such a way that it induces a torsional couple in the cross member. A mechanism is provided for inducing a torsional couple in the cross member which is substantially opposite to that produced by the supporting of the machine head. In one embodiment this mechanism is a tube which has one end rigidly interconnected with the cross member and another end which is movable relative to the cross member. A torsional force may be induced within the tube by movement of the second end relative to the cross rail and at least a portion of this torsional force is thereby transmitted to the cross member by the rigid interconnection of the first end of the tube with the cross member.

  • Patent number: 5364329
Abstract: A machine tool having a vertically movable machining head and an automatic tool changer, and fitted with a tool magazine including two same-diameter superposed disks, namely an upper disk and a lower disk, with tools being distributed around the peripheries thereof, and automatic rotary drive and indexing means for said disks, said machining head and said tool magazine being capable of moving relative to each other to enable a tool to be changed, wherein the lower disk is offset relative to the upper disk towards the machining head through a distance d leaving room for the machining head to take tools from said lower disk or to deposit them thereon.

  • Patent number: 5183374
Abstract: This invention relates to a machine-tool incorporating a mobile standard and a horizontal broach, wherein the mobile standard is disposed between a fixed lower base and a fixed upper base connected together by a rigid static support located behind the mobile standard, and is guided at each of its ends by parallel guiding means provided on said bases. The mobile standard is, moreover, driven at each of its ends by synchronized drive means.

  • Patent number: 5073069
Abstract: The present invention relates to a machine for milling the ends of ingots or slabs, which comprises a fixed standard, a broach head mounted to slide on two vertical guiding slideways with which said standard is provided and bearing a horizontal-axis cylindrical mill. The fixed standard, oversized, presents a transverse conduit opening out between the two slideways in front of the mill. The piece to be machined is disposed in this conduit and fixed by fixation means placed as close as possible to the slideways.
