  • Patent number: 6089714
Abstract: For segmenting a sampled signal having at least two temporally separate interleaved dominant components for the purposes of extracting one or more of the separate components, an automated method of analyzing the sampled signal is used. By selecting a model for the signal and a processing window dimension, a variance between the signal and a model value for the signal is measured within the window over the sampled domain to obtain a noise indicator value. A corner geometry value for the sampled signal is calculated within the same window over the domain. A transition indicator value is generated based on a ratio of the corner geometry value and the model value. The segmentation points are identified based on the transition indicator value and at least one of the noise indicator value and the model value within the window over the domain.

  • Patent number: 6091334
Abstract: A method and apparatus for analyzing drowsiness of a subject. The monitor measures motion of the head of the subject and of one or both eyes of the subject in at least one dimension and derives at least one physiological indication such as gaze stability, saccade speed, saccade frequency, blink duration, and instrument-world scanning performance of the subject. The physiological indicator or indicators are compared with predetermined ranges of acceptable values in such a manner as to determine an onset of drowsiness in the subject.

  • Patent number: 5984475
Abstract: An integrated controller for controlling both pan and vergent movements of a stereoscopic vision system, having two cameras, is described. The controller determines motion and direction based on a provided retinal error. Each of the cameras is moved until no retinal error remains which results from camera orientation. A butterfly controller accepts data input relating to retinal errors from any number of sources and provides a single signal relating to common motion and another signal relating to vergent motion to each control circuit. The circuits are designed to operate in common mode or differential mode thereby causing sensors to move in different directions when controlled by same control signals.

  • Patent number: 5942954
Abstract: An apparatus and method for analyzing visual and vestibular responses of a subject. One or more targets undergoing slow random motion are presented to the subject while the head of the subject is simultaneous perturbed with perturbations statistically uncorrelated with the random motion of the target. The response of the motion of the head of the subject and the motion of the subject's eyes is measured and the visual and vestibular system response dynamics are estimated based on the measured response.
