Publication number: 20140241305Abstract: For transmitting data between a node (100) of a mobile network and a further node (200), the further node sends downlink data packets to the node (100) of the mobile network. The downlink data packets carry a destination address corresponding to a user equipment (10) connected to the mobile network. For implementing an inband data channel between the node (100) of the mobile network and the further node (200), the further node (200) inserts data destined to the node (100) of the mobile network into at least one of the downlink data packets and marks this downlink data packet as including data destined to the node (100) of the mobile network. The node (100) of the mobile network receives the downlink data packets from the further node (200) and identities, on the basis of the marking, the least one downlink data packet including data destined to the node (100) of the mobile network. The node (100) of the mobile network then extracts the data from the identified downlink data packet.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 6, 2011Publication date: August 28, 2014Applicant: TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L M ERICSSON (PUBL)Inventors: Henrik Basilier, Reiner Ludwig, Magnus Olsson

Publication number: 20100332626Abstract: Systems and methods according to these exemplary embodiments provide for methods and systems for allowing a variety of devices desiring Internet Protocol (IP) addresses from potentially different locations to all operate on the same local area network. For example, a node, e.g., a gateway device, can receive a request for an IP address and determine whether that request was issued by a locally addressable device or a wide area network (WAN) addressable device. The node can then selectively locally provide an IP address or request an IP address, e.g., from a WAN, based on the determination.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 5, 2008Publication date: December 30, 2010Inventors: Ulf Fredrik Jönsson, Henrik Basilier

System and method for connecting peripheral devices to a supporting network through a mobile station
Patent number: 7468968Abstract: A mobile station serves as an aggregation point for connecting one or more peripheral devices to a Public Data Network through the mobile station's wireless link to a supporting wireless communication network. In an exemplary embodiment, the mobile station establishes a single PPP session with the network that includes a primary service instance for itself and an auxiliary service instance for each locally attached peripheral device. As such, the mobile station and the one or more locally attached peripheral devices share a single PPP session, permitting each device to have its own IP address and allowing the mobile station to provide Mobile IP messaging relay between Mobile IP clients in the attached devices and the supporting network. With this arrangement, the mobile station avoids IP packet routing overhead by directing traffic to the appropriate peripheral device using the service instance identifiers marking the packet data traffic received from the network.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2002Date of Patent: December 23, 2008Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Sven Anders Borje Svensson, Henrik Basilier -

Patent number: 7289480Abstract: A wireless communication network manages communication resources based on the types of packet data being carried by the network for each mobile station. Packet data for each use is matched to packet matching filters in defined flow type profiles. Each flow type profile corresponds to an expected application behavior and includes one or more resource control parameters having values set with regard to that expected behavior. An application activity profile is generated for each mobile station based on deriving resource control parameters using parameter values corresponding to the active flows for each mobile station. The network determines each mobile station's active flows based on matching that mobile station's packet data types to one or more of the defined flow type profiles. Thus, the network manages communication resources individually and/or jointly for its users based on the type of packet data traffic passing through the network for each of those users.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2002Date of Patent: October 30, 2007Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Anders Lundstrom, Henrik Basilier

Patent number: 7075930Abstract: An method for PDSN (Packet Data Serving Node) initial assignment and re-selection in a wireless communication system is provided. The method is implemented in PCF (Packet Control Function) within a third-generation (3G) CDMA Radio Access Network (RAN). The methodology reduces the number of point-to-point (PPP) re-establishments, when a Mobile Station (MS) roams to a different packet zone/PCF. The method generates a table of PDSN identification numbers cross-referenced to the PDSN Internet protocol (IP) addresses, residing with each PCF. A PDSN Id number is selected from the table using the MS IMSI (International Mobile Station Identifier) as a key to perform the selection. The present invention methodology addresses the issue of forward and backward compatibility, scalability, reliability, and load sharing in the PDSN selection.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 2000Date of Patent: July 11, 2006Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Ning Nicholas Chen, Henrik Basilier, Vibhor Julka, Roger Gustavsson

Patent number: 7061880Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to establish multicast capabilities for communication systems including wireless communication and internet protocol (IP). An exemplary communication system may include one or more content servers (CSs), IP network, packet data serving nodes (PDSNs), IP radio-to-packet network (IP (RP)), base stations (BSs), and mobile stations (MSs) all communicatively coupled together. The content servers may provide a communication multicast on the same IP multicast address. The PDSN to MS communications may use, for example, protocols IGMP (IPv4) and/or MLD (IPv6) for control signaling of the IP multicasting. These protocols may be augmented by MCFTP. The signaling may include identifiers including the IP multicast address, a flow code that may be generated by the PDSN, a unique mapping reference identifier, and various radio parameters. Various signal flow approaches are presented for establishing and maintaining multicast communication between a content server and a mobile station.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2001Date of Patent: June 13, 2006Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventor: Henrik Basilier
