Patent number: 9902472Abstract: A semi-submersible floating structure for the drilling and production of offshore oil and gas is provided. The semi-submersible floating structure includes a pontoon having a plurality of pontoon sections, an outer edge, and an inner edge, the pontoon sections defining an interior space. The semi-submersible floating structure further includes a plurality of columns extending vertically upward from the pontoon. Each column has an upper section having an upper column width; and a lower section. The lower section has a bottom end coupled to the pontoon and aligned with the outer edge of the pontoon, the bottom end having a lower column width greater than the upper column width, at least part of the bottom end protruding into the interior space. The lower section further has a flared portion between the upper section and the bottom end; the flared portion having a width that varies from the upper column width at the upper section to the lower column width at the bottom end.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2016Date of Patent: February 27, 2018Assignee: AKER SOLUTIONS INC.Inventors: Tao Wang, Xiaofeng Jiang, Renjian Roger Lu, Rolf Eide, Henrik Hannus

Patent number: 8973514Abstract: A support of deep caisson type having a longitudinal axis, for floating installation in a body of water and provided with mooring lines for anchoring to a seabed, has a lower portion in the body of water having a weight element, an upper portion that supports a platform above a water surface, and an extended portion in an area between the upper portion and the lower portion. The extended portion has one or more internal storage chambers and one or more ballast chambers. The storage chambers are arranged closer to the longitudinal axis than the ballast chambers.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 2011Date of Patent: March 10, 2015Assignee: Aker Engineering & Technology ASInventors: Henrik Hannus, Rolf Løken, Lars Laukeland

Patent number: 6851894Abstract: A tether system include tethers each having an upper section (1) attached to a tension leg platform (TLP) (4), and each upper section has a large diameter so that the upper section (1) is positively bouyant. This buoyancy can be designed to compensate for the weight of the lower section (2) of each tether, so as to make the total buoyancy of each tether closer to neutral. The selection process for each section is driven by requirements for buoyancy, stiffness and external pressure resistance.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2000Date of Patent: February 8, 2005Assignee: Aker Kvaerner Engineering & Technology ASInventors: Graham Perret, Henrik Hannus, Kjetil Eckhoff

Arrangement for anchoring the legs of a marine tension leg platform in a foundation on the sea floor
Patent number: 4968183Abstract: In an anchoring arrangement for releasable anchoring of the legs of a marine tension leg platform in a foundation on the sea floor, the lower ends of the tension legs with an end head (1) are lowered into a cylindrical anchoring casing (4). For anchoring the leg in the foundation, locking elements (7) are provided at the tension leg insertion end of casing (4), on the inside of the cylindrical casing wall, for cooperation with bosses (2) on tension leg head (1). Anchoring casing (4) is, furthermore, on the outside of its cylindrical wall, at the insertion end, provided with further bosses/grooves (10). The latter are intended for cooperation with bosses (14,15) and grooves which are provided on the inside of a cylindrical steel ring (13), which is intended to be integrallly moulded into the foundation on the sea floor. Over the end edges of casing (4) and the cylindrical integral ring (13) a locking ring (16) is provided on a contact face to provide additional fixation of the anchoring.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1989Date of Patent: November 6, 1990Assignee: Kvaener Brug A/SInventors: Henrik Hannus, Raymond E.
