  • Publication number: 20150250639
Abstract: A method of detecting detachment of an ostomy device from a patient includes providing, in the ostomy device, a first electrode separated from the patient by an adhesive that attaches the ostomy device to the patient, where a first capacitor is formed between the first electrode and the patient. The method includes applying a signal to an electrical circuit that includes the first capacitor, and detecting changes in a capacitance value of the first capacitor based on frequency responses of the electrical circuit to the signal. The method additionally includes activating an alarm based upon detecting the changes in the capacitance value of the first capacitor.

  • Publication number: 20150197455
Abstract: A method produces a smooth surface on a rough substrate. The rough substrate is coated with a film or particles of spin-on-glass (SOG) dissolved in a solvent using spin coating, spray coating or dip coating. The SOG is made to reflow by using thermal melting and solvent thinning. The reflow is done in an atmosphere containing a partial pressure of the solvent. The reflow allows the SOG to partially melt and to decrease the surface roughnesss of the film. The SOG is cured by thermal curing or UV exposure radiation curing into a hard durable and chemical inert silicon dioxide film. The SOG can be hydrogen silsesquioxane or methyl silsesquioxane dissolved in either methyl isobutyl ketone or volatile methyl siloxanes. The method can include embossing, chemical mechanical polishing, etching and functionalizing the surface. The substrate can be a cast, mould or form for producing a polymer or a glass replica.

  • Publication number: 20140154441
Abstract: The present invention solves numerous problems in state-of-the-art industrial anti-corrosion protection by using a reactive silicon oxide precursor solution. Among the problems solved are those of decreased heat transfer over a protected surface, limited protection against high-temperature corrosive fluids and difficulties in protecting complex 3D geometries and surfaces with a high surface roughness. The present invention furthermore provides an easy way of making chemical surface functionalization using e.g. silane chemistry. The invention solves these problems by coating the surface of a ceramic or metallic part with a thin layer of a liquid solution of a reactive silicon oxide precursor (rSiO-p) such as Hydrogen Silsesquioxane (HSQ) in Methyl Isobytul Ketone (MIBK) or volatile methyl siloxane (VMS), heating the part to a curing temperature of the rSiO-p, and after a curing time the reactive silicon oxide precursor is transformed into a thin layer of essentially pin-hole free silicon oxide.

  • Publication number: 20130101792
Abstract: The present invention solves numerous problems in state-of-the-art industrial polymer shaping of micro and nanostructures. The problems of high tool polishing requirements, the inability to define an arbitrary topographical structure on an arbitrary free-form (curved) surface, limited durability and replication quality, as well as providing a convenient method for functionalizing the surface. The invention solves these problems by deploying a ceramic material precursor, which may be coated onto a conventional polymer shaping tool, micro- or nanostructured by mechanical contact (embossing), cured into a hard, durable ceramic material comprising the desired structures. The ceramic material is functionalisable by silane chemistry, due to its high surface density of —OH groups. This apparatus may then be used in a conventional polymer shaping process to make nanostructured polymer replicas.

  • Patent number: 8398603
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and dressing for detecting detachment of the dressing, which is applied to a surface of an at least partly electrically conductive object. The dressing comprises an adhesive for attaching the dressing to the electrically conductive object and at least two electrodes arranged in a distance from the electrically conductive object. A voltage is applied to the first and second electrode establishing an electrical circuit comprising a first capacitor between the first electrode and the electrically conductive object and a second capacitor between the second electrode and the electrically conductive object. Changes of the capacitance between at least one of the first and the second electrode and the electrically conductive object are detected, and an alarm is activated when the changes of the capacitance reach a predetermined value. This advantageously provides a method whereby a leak can be detected quickly.

  • Patent number: 7985366
Abstract: A method of providing at least one heat sensitive material on at least part of a surface of a polymer article formed from a heated polymer whose temperature is sufficient to adversely affect the at least one heat sensitive material, wherein an at least partly textured shaping surface is provided. The heat sensitive material is applied to at least part of the shaping surface, the shaping surface being at a temperature at which the heat sensitive material is not adversely affected. The heated polymer is brought in contact with the shaping surface and formed by the surface shape of the shaping surface. The at least one heat sensitive material is transferred from the shaping surface to the polymer surface, while maintaining sufficiently low the temperature of the shaping surface so that the heat sensitive material is not substantially adversely affected by heat upon or after contact with the heated polymer.

  • Publication number: 20100245074
Abstract: There is disclosed a wireless silage 104 sensor unit 102 with one or more sensors 402, 404, 406, 408 for sensing physical and/or chemical characteristics of the silage, and a transmitter 410 coupled to the one or more sensors for wirelessly transmitting the characteristics. A size and/or a shape of the sensor unit 102 is adapted for sensor unit 102 to be embedded in the silage 104 during storage of the silage and for the silage 104 to be provided with the sensor unit 102 during storage of the silage and for the sensor unit to endure a decompacting process of the silage during which the silage is decompacted and possibly mixed with further ingredients and where the sensor unit 102 is furthermore adapted to be sorted out unbroken after the decompacting process.

  • Patent number: 7130060
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for absolute refractive index measurements are disclosed, wherein a beam of spatially coherent laser light is directed perpendicularly on to a side of a capillary tube (12) and back reflected light is detected (16) over a range of angles (22) with respect to the incident light beam. The refractive index of a liquid contained in the capillary is determined from the angle at which a marked change in the intensity of the interference fringes of the interference pattern formed by said back reflected light is observed or from the amplitude of a low frequency component of the angular variation of the intensity of interference fringes.
