  • Publication number: 20220086713
Abstract: A system, method and non-transitory computer readable media for facilitating reduced signaling load with respect to UE location reporting in a non-terrestrial network (NTN) environment (100) interoperable with one or more terrestrial cellular communications networks. In one embodiment of an index-based location reporting scheme, a UE (105, 1200) may receive (402) a list of reference locations from a network node (1000, 1100), each identified with an index. Responsive to receiving the list of reference locations, the UE (105, 1200) may report to the network node (1000, 1100) an index or a subset of indices of one or more reference locations that match a specific reporting criterion. In an example implementation, reporting of index-based location information by the UE (105, 1200) may be configurably triggered, e.g., periodically or in response to the occurrence of a particular event, condition, etc.

  • Publication number: 20220070818
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system are provided for facilitating positioning based on signal correlation function characteristic feedback. In an embodiment, the method may involve steps performed by a network node in communication with a wireless communication device (WCD) and a plurality of base stations. The network node receives, from the WCD, location information including position reference signal (PRS) correlation function characteristics of a cross-correlation between a received downlink signal and a transmitted PRS for each base station from the plurality of base stations. The network node determines a position of the WCD using the PRS correlation function characteristics. The WCD may initiate the transmission of the PRS correlation function characteristics on its own, or in response to a request to do so from the network node.

  • Publication number: 20210400556
Abstract: A network node of a wireless communication network provides information to a User Equipment (UE) that allows the UE to adapt it radio measurements with respect to the network, to account for “link changes.” Link changes are service-link and/or feeder-link changes arising from motion by the satellite(s) included in the Radio Access Network (RAN) portion of the network. The UE uses the provided information to adapt its radio measurements in conjunction with the link changes. Among the several advantages of accounting for satellite link changes in the manner contemplated are any one or more of reduced signaling going between the UE and the network, reduced battery consumption at the UE, mitigation of the effects of the link changes on the radio measurements, avoidance of spurious measurements, and an effective “automation” of the timed changeover by the UE to new measurement configurations, coincident with the occurrence of link changes.

  • Patent number: 11153745
Abstract: Methods, network node (200) and wireless device (202) for supporting positioning of the wireless device in a wireless network. The network node requests (2:4) the wireless device to provide a positioning related report when a mobility criterion is fulfilled, which criterion may be selected (2:3) based on sensor capabilities of the device. The wireless device monitors (2:5) sensor measurements and evaluates the mobility criterion. When the mobility criterion is fulfilled the wireless device provides (2:6) the positioning related report to the network node which then obtains (2:7) the position or mobility status of the wireless device based on the positioning related report which may contain information related to said mobility status and/or sensor measurements made in the device.

  • Patent number: 11129126
Abstract: Embodiments herein relate to a method performed by a first communication node (110; 121) for determining the position (of a second communication node (122) in a wireless communications network (100). The first communication node (110; 121) transmits a timing measurement message to the second communication node (122) as a beamformed transmission based on channel sounding feedback information received from the second communication node (122). The first communication node (110; 121) also receives an acknowledgement message from the second communication node (122) for the timing measurement message in the beamformed transmission. Furthermore, the first communication node (110; 121) determines the position of the second communication node (122) at least partly based on a transmission time of the timing measurement message and a reception time of the acknowledgement message. Embodiments of the first communication node (110; 121) are also described. Embodiments herein also relate to a second communication.

  • Patent number: 11096138
Abstract: Method for handling synchronization of a wireless device (130). The first network node (111) and the wireless device (130) operate in a wireless communications network (100). The first network node (111) determines (202) whether or not the wireless device (130) requires synchronization, during a first time period, with a second network node (112) serving the wireless device (130). The determining (202) is based on a prediction of at least one of: a) data communication between the wireless device (130) and the second network node (112) during the first time period, and b) the wireless device (130) lacking synchronization during the first time period. The first network node (111) initiates (203), based on a result of the determination, a synchronization procedure of the wireless device (130) during a second time period. The second time period precedes the first time period, so that the synchronization procedure is completed prior to the first time period.

  • Patent number: 11044641
Abstract: To perform handover in a multi-carrier network, a node that is currently serving a user equipment, UE, informs the neighboring nodes about the UE position and UE capabilities in terms of supported carriers. The neighboring nodes reply with a figure of merit indicative of connection efficacy, or data from which connection efficacy can be estimated, such as predicted signal quality and strength for each specified carrier. The serving node then determines, based on these predicted values, how to restrict mobility reference signal, MRS, measurements to promising candidate combinations of neighboring nodes and their carriers. Turning on of reference signals is thus limited, excluding nodes and carriers that will not be able to accept handover on technical or policy grounds, as well as nodes or carriers which have poor predicted signal quality.
