  • Patent number: 6266485
Abstract: A hot water dispensing system comprises a one-piece plastic tank having a main heating chamber, an expansion chamber, and an air collection chamber. The air collection chamber is disposed generally below the expansion chamber and alongside the main heating chamber. The main heating chamber is in fluid communication with the expansion chamber and the air collection chamber. The hot water dispensing system also includes a temperature control system having a heating element, a metal temperature sensing bracket, and a thermostat. The heating element is disposed within the plastic tank and connected to a metal temperature sensing bracket disposed outside the tank. The excellent conductive properties of a metal sheath that connects the metal temperature sensing bracket to the heating element allow the metal temperature sensing bracket to simulate changes in the temperature of water in the tank.

  • Patent number: 5673206
Abstract: Digitized audio information is compressed by retrieving a first audio sample from a digitized audio signal and storing it in its entire, uncompressed, form. The next audio sample is then retrieved and a signed difference between the first audio sample value and the next audio sample value is computed. If this difference value can be represented in fewer data segments than would be required to represent the next audio sample, the difference value is stored, rather than the value of the next sample, otherwise the next sample is stored. The invention proceeds in this fashion until the entire PCM audio signal is compressed and stored. The compressed data stream is decompressed to generate an output data stream by retrieving a stored sample and examining it to ascertain whether it is a difference value or a flag which indicates that the following data represents a coded amplitude value.

  • Patent number: 5637420
Abstract: A self-latching handle for storage batteries includes a cam mechanism formed integrally with the ends of the battery handle, the cam mechanism cooperating with the battery housing as the battery handle is rotated downwardly from a vertical attachment position to a horizontal storage position to lift the ends of the battery handle to move pivot post portions of the battery handle into pivot apertures formed in the cover of the battery housing and to lock the battery handle to the battery housing while permitting the battery handle to be pivoted between the horizontal storage position and a vertical use position without becoming detached from the battery housing.
