    Abstract: A collet-type device for orienting a screw blank relative to wings previously formed on the shank of the blank so that subsequent operations, such as the formation of cutting edges and flutes, can be performed on the shank between the wings. Blank rotating cam surfaces are located in the bore of the collet intermediate a large upper diameter portion and a smaller lower diameter portion to automatically align the wings with longitudinal slots in the lower diameter portion as the blank is inserted in the collet.

A plurality of axially spaced wings of differing and increasing radial dimension from the cutting edge of the drill point to the threaded shank portion are provided and located between the upper and lower extremities of the flutes on the drill point.
