  • Patent number: 4873822
Abstract: The installation comprises a compression unit and a power unit. The compression unit comprises at least one engine operation according to a Diesel cycle and supercharged by a turbine having an expansion turbine supplied with the exhaust gases of the engine and rotary compressor taking air from the atmosphere through a filter. The compressor delivers a primary supercharging flow to the Diesel cylinders via a cooler. The Diesel engine drives two compressors supplied with atmospheric air through the filter. One of the compressors provides a secondary flow to the power unit. The power unit comprises a combustion chamber which is supplied through the exchanger with part at least of the secondary airflow from the compression unit. The combustion chamber feeds a turbine producing on its shaft the whole of the output power. The Diesel type engine may be a conventional crank type engine or a free piston engine.

  • Patent number: 4748811
Abstract: A power production apparatus comprises a Diesel engine having a plurality of sequentially operating motor cylinders and a plurality of alternating air compressor cylinders. Each motor cylinder has scavenge ports connected to receive scavenging air from that compressor cylinder whose compression stroke occurs while the scavenge ports of the motor cylinder are closed. An intake capacity having a volume equal to about five times the cubic capacity of the motor cylinder is located on the air path. The apparatus may consist of a gas turbine and a multi-tandem free piston gas generator and a gas turbine; the gas generator then has a plurality of Diesel type motor cylinders whose pistons are drivably connected to compression pistons.

  • Patent number: 4678407
Abstract: A free piston machine comprising a mounting, an inner movable mechanism comprising a central cross-member and guided in translation so as to be able to move with an alternating motion along the axis of the mounting and an outer movable mechanism comprising two outer cross-members connected by at least one tie-rod. The mounting includes a base (10) and a header (11) connected by at least one central one-piece structure. The inner movable mechanism comprises four inner drive pistons movable along drive cylinders (15a-15b) arranged at the corners of a rectangle and two compressor pistons sliding in compressor cylinders (17a-17b) whose axles pass outside of said rectangle.

  • Patent number: 4623459
Abstract: The apparatus for selectively skimming a layer of pollutant from the surface of a body of water comprises a hull having two lateral parts and a vertical central part, placed between the lateral parts and projecting forwards with respect to the lateral parts. The parts define channels directing a flow of water and pollutant to pollutant-water separators in the hull. The central part carries immersed deflector wings shaped for creating vortices in said water body which decrease divergence of the flow lines in the vicinity of free water level around the hull. Each lateral part cooperates with the central part to define an open water trapping channel which authorizes water flow under a front portion of the lateral part. A front end portion of each lateral part is connected to an immersed part of the central part which is located forward of the stem of the associated lateral part by a vane arranged for deflecting the flow lines of deeper layers downwardly and outwardly away from the central part.

  • Patent number: 4491518
Abstract: A device for depolluting a water sheet comprising a hull having a central portion protruding with respect to two side portion which delimit with the central portion delivery pipes to separators. The central portion has a wing for generating swirls of which the orientation reduces the divergence of the surface flow. Each pipe has a floor with a drifting profile with a protruding leading edge for slowing down the flow and for thickening the polluting layer. A vertical partitioning wall separates each pipe into two subchannels of which one communicates downstream with the separator and the other one open, at the rear portion of the device, into a pump.

  • Patent number: 4481772
Abstract: A power plant comprises a free piston gas generator having compression chambers and motor cylinders. A reciprocable assembly has drive pistons which are slidably received in the motor cylinders and compression pistons, each slidable for defining a variable volume compression chamber. A rotary compressor delivers air at above atmospheric pressure to the compressor chambers which are distributed into a first set and a second set. The outlets of the first set deliver air to the motor cylinders. The second set delivers pressurized air to the exhaust gas and the mixture is admitted into a power gas turbine. The temperature of the mixture of hot air and exhaust gas is increased before delivery to the turbine by a heat exchanger and a compression chamber.

  • Patent number: 4412476
Abstract: An opposed free piston tandem machine includes at least two drive piston-cylinder groups A and B and compressor cylinders and movable parts of this machine constitute two trains. The compressor cylinders of the outer movable train are arranged outside cross-pieces (23, 24) on which the drive pistons and outer compressors (3, 6, 15, 16, 17, 18) are fixed and which are joined together by linking rods (25, 26). The machine can include several drive units and several compressor units, and constitute an autogenerator of gas.

  • Patent number: 4403577
Abstract: A free piston internal combustion engine has at least a motor cylinder formed with intake and exhaust ports and a driving piston reciprocating in said cylinder and cooperating with the exhaust ports. Air delivery means are formed in the cylinder for supplying air originating from a compression cylinder associated with the motor cylinder as a jet directed along the driving piston, towards the head ring of the latter to prevent overheating. The cylinder may additionally be provided with a circuit for circulating a coolant.

  • Patent number: 4391708
Abstract: Apparatus for selectively removing a layer of light liquid such as oil from a body of water. The apparatus includes a floating hull having two lateral parts and a central part between the lateral parts forming ducts directing a flow of water and light liquid to separator means in the hull. Means are provided on the central part for creating vortices in the water flowing into the ducts which diminish the divergence of the flow at the water surfaces.
