  • Patent number: 5631387
Abstract: An improved process for the preparation and recovery of maleic anhydride in which the recovery of maleic anhydride from a gaseous reaction mixture includes absorbing the maleic anhydride in a solvent and subsequently stripping maleic anhydride from the solvent to obtain crude maleic anhydride product and regenerated absorbing solvent containing polymeric tars and other contaminants. In accordance with the improvement, at least a portion of the regenerated solvent is contacted in an agitated extraction zone with an aqueous liquid extractant to hydrolyze the polymeric tars, transfer water-soluble contaminants to the aqueous extract phase and produce a mixture comprising an aqueous extract phase containing water-soluble contaminants and an organic raffinate phase comprising regenerated absorbing solvent having a reduced concentration of polymeric tars. The aqueous extract and organic raffinate phases are then separated and the organic phase is recycled and used again to absorb maleic anhydride.

  • Patent number: 4545561
Abstract: A valve (10) is provided for the control of fluid flow. The valve (10) includes a housing (20) having a fluid inlet aperture (40) and a fluid outlet aperture (48). A piezoelectric device (12) is disposed within the housing (20) adjacent the fluid inlet aperture (40) and the fluid outlet aperture (48). Structure (52, 54) is provided for applying a voltage to the piezoelectric device (12) for causing motion of the piezoelectric device (12) to thereby establish a path (62) within the housing (20) between the fluid inlet aperture (40) and the fluid outlet aperture (48) to enable fluid to flow through the housing (20).

  • Patent number: 4400704
Abstract: A plotting system (10) including a plotting device (40) for plotting on paper (52) is provided. The plotting system (10) includes a work surface (28). A supply source (50) of paper (52) to be plotted is disposed adjacent the work surface (28). A take-up roll (56) is disposed adjacent the work surface (28) opposite the supply source (50). A supply source (64) of carbon paper (66) is disposed adjacent to the work surface (28). A take-up roll (72) is disposed adjacent the work surface (28) opposite the supply source (64). Structure (60) is interconnected to the first take-up roll (56) for periodically advancing the paper (52) across the work surface (28) from the supply source (50) to the take-up roll (56). Structure is interconnected to the second take-up roll (72) for continuously advancing the carbon paper (66) across the work surface (28) from the supply source ( 64) to the second take-up roll (72) while the plotting device (40) plots on the paper (52).

  • Patent number: 4390216
Abstract: A carriage (30) for slidable movement along a track (100) having first and second parallel spaced apart guide surfaces (102, 104) is provided. The carriage (30) includes a base member (36). Structure (72, 78, 80) is mounted on the base member (36) for contacting the first and second parallel spaced apart guide surfaces (102, 104) on the track (100). The base member (36) includes a spring (50, 56, 58), such that as the base member (36) moves along the track (100), the base member (36) is resiliently compressed to thereby urge the structure (72, 78, 80) against the guide surfaces (102, 104) on the track (100).

  • Patent number: 4161338
Abstract: A scissor hoist attachment for pickup truck beds to convert a fixed bed truck with a passenger cab and hauling bed supported on a frame to a tilting bed truck. The hoist upon installation allows the truck bed to be rotated from a horizontal to a tilt position so that the truck cab and bed are in the same relative relationship in the horizontal position as before the installation of the hoist, i.e. the hoist does not alter the original body lines of the truck. The hoist is a four bar linkage. The yoke utilizes one cylinder to operate a scissors of wide pivotal area but narrow at its mountings. The wide pivotal area permits use of the space around the truck differential since the scissors side plates and spreader plate straddle the truck differential and permit a heavier payload to be lifted. The wide pivotal area enables the hoist to be used with essentially all standard pickup trucks and makes the hoist effectively universal.

  • Patent number: 4111610
Abstract: A wave powered pumping system of a type adapted for installation in a body of water subject to surface wave motion. A support structure is adapted to be mounted within the body of water, and a float is connected to a reciprocal structure which is movably connected to the support structure for permitting the float to rise and fall upon the water surface in response to wave motion. A load is driven by the reciprocal structure, and apparatus is provided which opposes free movement of the reciprocal structure toward two positional extremes for minimizing the likelihood of damage to the pumping system which would otherwise occur during severe weather conditions.

  • Patent number: 4066296
Abstract: A truck bed tilting mechanism is provided for use between the hauling bed and frame of a truck having a bed pivotally connected adjacent the rear of the truck frame to permit relative rotation between the hauling bed and the frame. The tilting mechanism includes a first arm pivotally connected at one of its ends to the truck frame and extending forwardly from the frame. A second arm is pivotally connected at one of its ends to the truck bed adjacent the forward end of the bed and extending rearwardly from the truck bed. A third arm is pivotally connected between the end of the first arm remote from the frame and a point intermediate of the ends of the second arm. A fourth arm is pivotally connected between the end of the second arm remote from the hauling bed and a point intermediate of the end of the first arm. A variable length actuator arm is interconnected between the first and second arms at points intermediate of the ends of the first and second arms.
