  • Patent number: 6166212
Abstract: N-(Hydroxyalkoxy) hindered amine stabilizers are prepared by reacting the corresponding N-oxyl compound with a peroxide or organic hydroperoxide and a catalytic amount of a metal salt or metal-ligand complex in an alcohol solvent. These N-(hydroxyalkoxy) hindered amines are particularly useful as stabilizers for polyolefins, thermoplastic polyolefins and automotive coating compositions.

  • Patent number: 5420274
Abstract: An improved process for the preparation of 2,4-di(alkylamino)-6-alkylthio-s-triazines wherein cyanuric chloride is reacted in successive steps with two appropriate alkylamines and an alkyl mercaptan is described where the improvement involves use of a single water-immiscible solvent and a phase transfer catalyst in the mercaptan addition step.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 19, 1993
Date of Patent: May 30, 1995

Inventors: Henry C. Grace, Mervin G. Wood, Jr.
  • Patent number: 4590292
Abstract: A modified novel process for preparing cyclopropylamine from .gamma.-butyrolactone is described. The .gamma.-butyrolactone ring is cleaved with a hydrohalide in the presence of a novel catalyst comprising an aqueous sulfuric acid solution. The 4-chlorobutyric acid, thus formed is converted into a hindered chlorobutyrate ester. The hindered ester based on secondary and tertiary alkanols of eight or less carbon atoms, is cyclized to form the hindered cyclopropanecarboxylate ester by a novel reaction medium consisting of solid caustic in a water-immiscible solvent and a phase transfer catalyst. The hindered cyclopropanecarboxylate ester is ammoniated to form cyclopropanecarboxamide by a novel catalyst comprising an alkali metal salt of a polyol having hydroxy groups on adjacent carbons. The carboxamide formed in substantially quantitative yields is converted to cyclopropylamine by a modified Hofmann reaction utilizing continuous degradation of the intermediate with simultaneous distillation.

  • Patent number: 4252742
Abstract: A process for preparing 2,6-dialkylcyclohexylamine, e.g., 2,6-dimethylcyclohexylamine, from a corresponding dialkylphenol, e.g., 2,6-dimethylphenol, by passing the phenol over a bed of a hydrogen-transfer catalyst in the presence of ammonia at elevated temperatures and pressures.

  • Patent number: 4252965
Abstract: An improved process is provided for the production of 1-substituted-3-hydroxy-5-chloro-1,2,4-triazoles which involves reacting in dilute solution a 1-substituted-1-cyanohydrazine with phosgene in tetrahydrofuran as the specific inert solvent, treating the reaction mixture with anhydrous ammonia to form an ammonium salt of the 1,2,4-triazole, said ammonium salt being insoluble in tetrahydrofuran, and liberating from said isolated salt the 1,2,4-triazole in yields from about 85 to 92% of theory and in very pure state by treating said salt with an acid. The 1,2,4-triazoles are valuable intermediates in the manufacture of pesticides.

  • Patent number: 4186265
Abstract: A method is provided for separating tris(alkylamino)-s-triazine by-product from chloro-bis(alkylamino)-s-triazines by extracting tris(alkylamino)-s-triazine from an organic solution containing a mixture of tris(alkylamino)-s-triazine and chlorobis(alkylamino)-s-triazine with an aqueous acid solution in the pH-range of 5.4-0.5 and according to a further embodiment of the present invention, treating an alkaline aqueous effluent containing a mixture of chloro-bis(alkylamino)-s-triazine and tris(alkylamino)-s-triazine with an agent capable of reducing the pH value below 5.4 and extracting the chloro-bis(alkylamino)-s-triazine with a water immiscible solvent, the tris(alkylamino)-s-triazine remaining in the aqueous phase.
