  • Patent number: 6320547
Abstract: An array antenna includes a first ceramic layer and a second ceramic layer. A metal layer is disposed between the first and second ceramic layers. A plurality of radiating elements are mounted on the first ceramic layer, and a plurality of control circuits are mounted on the second ceramic layer. The control circuits are coupled to the radiating elements through a plurality of conductive vias which feed through the metal layer. The array antenna may also include a switch having a plurality of poles formed in the second ceramic layer and coupled to one of the radiating elements through one or more conductive vias. A plurality of phase delay elements may be coupled at a first end to a signal source and coupled at a second end to the respective plurality of poles of the switch to provide phase-delayed signals. A waveguide may also be formed within the ceramic layers. Conductive vias or coaxial transmission lines may be used to connect elements within the array antenna.

  • Patent number: 5883592
Abstract: Apparatus, and a concomitant method of operation for the apparatus, for responding to an interrogation signal transmitted by a remotely located interrogator comprising: a demodulator for demodulating the interrogation signal; a signal processor, coupled to the demodulator, for interpreting a set up instruction contained in the interrogation signal and for initiating a counter to count cycles of a carrier wave signal contained in the interrogation signal; and a modulator, coupled to the signal processor, for transmitting a pulse when the signal processor indicates that the counter has attained a count value that matches a codeword stored in the signal processor.

  • Patent number: 4008475
Abstract: A frequency-modulated continuous wave (FM-CW) ranging system wherein continuous feedback to the FM oscillator of the system eliminates drift in frequency excursions of the FM waveform.

  • Patent number: 3935573
Abstract: An electronic calibrator for doppler radar speed sensors and odometers comprising a variable impedance device, such as a varactor, positioned in the near-field of the radar antenna to modulate the radar probe beam, in the calibrate mode of the radar at a rate corresponding to the frequency of a doppler signal that would be sensed by the radar in its operating mode at a given speed. The impedance during the calibration mode is excited by a separate a.c. signal at a frequency corresponding to the doppler signal frequency. The output of the radar provides an indication during the calibration mode that can be adjusted to a calibrated indication corresponding to the actual speed causing a doppler signal of the same frequency as the excitation signal for the impedance.
