  • Patent number: 8912967
Abstract: An antenna element employable singularly or in an array and configured for concurrent RF transmission and receipt on a plurality of frequencies concurrently. The element is formed of conductive material on a substrate by a pair of substantially identical horns extending in opposite directions to distal tips. A cavity formed between the horns narrows to a narrowest point prior to curving. The element is capable of wideband RF communication on any frequency between a low frequency defined by the distance between the distal tips to a highest frequency defined by the narrowest point of the cavity. The antenna is especially well adapted for portable devices such as smartphones where concurrent cellular, Wi-Fi, and bluetooth communications may be accomplished with a single element.

  • Publication number: 20140333497
Abstract: An RF focusing component is provided for an antenna having a formed cavity between two adjacent lobes of planar conductive material positioned on a first side of a substrate with said cavity decreasing in diameter from a widest point of said cavity to a narrowest point along angled side edges, such as a planar notch or horn wideband antenna. The focal component positioned on an opposite side of a dielectric substrate from the horn of the antenna has a body with side edges adjacent angled sided edges of the notch or horn antenna to prevent distention of RF signals communicating through narrowing regions of the horn.

Two lobes formed of the conductive material have side edges abutting a cavity decreasing in cross section between the lobes. The cavity has a widest point configured to receive RF frequencies at the lowest frequency and a narrowest point configured to receive a highest frequency of the element. The widest and narrowest point may be changed during manufacture to fit the frequency spectrum needed. Opposing pairs of recess cavities formed in the side edges of the lobes along the decreasing edges of the cavity enhance the frequency of operation for frequencies paired to the distance between the pairs of notches. Projections are employable along the side edges to optimize impedance.
