  • Patent number: 4634172
Abstract: A recreational vehicle which has a first longitudinally extending rail C-shaped in transverse cross-section is combined with a metal cover for a roll-up awning having a second longitudinally extending rail C-shaped in transverse cross-section. A waterproof connector between the vehicle and the metal cover includes a pair of rods, each rod being capable of fitting within one of the first and second C-shaped rails, a synthetic organic resin strip wrapped around each rod forming a flexible multi-ply connection between the rods extending substantially the entire length thereof and forming a watertight hinge therebetween. Water is then prevented from flowing between the recreational vehicle and the metal cover for the roll-up awning when the awning is extended and the synthetic organic resin strip is under tension connecting the recreational vehicle and the roll-up awning metal cover.

  • Patent number: 4607654
Abstract: An awning assembly for a travel trailer or a mobile home which includes a flexible awning covering wound on a roller which is rotatable on a fixed shaft carried by a supporting frame, includes a latch apparatus comprising a cylindrical end plate rotatable with the roller and closing one end thereof, and a cap disposed adjacent to the end plate and fixed to the frame and the shaft. The end plate has a cylindrical portion coaxial with the shaft which projects toward the cap and defines a cavity having a plurality of equiangularly spaced-apart keeper recesses around the perimeter thereof. A latch handle pivots on the cap about an axis parallel to the shaft and carries a latch pin which extends parallel to the shaft for movement with the handle between a latching position disposed in one of the keeper recesses to latch the roller against rotation and an unlatching position disposed in the cavity but out of the recesses to accommodate free rotation of the roller.

  • Patent number: 4602890
Abstract: A ratchet assembly includes telescoping inner and outer tubes, the inner tube having a row of ratchet teeth thereon. A snap lock assembly includes a tubular mounting body threadedly engaged with the outer member. A latch member is disposed within the mounting body and reciprocates between a latching position for ratcheting engagement with the ratchet teeth and an unlatching position disengaged from the ratchet teeth. A spring urges the latch member to its latching position. The latch member has an enlarged head carrying a pin which lies closely along the hexagonal outer surface of the mounting body when the latching member is in its latch position to prevent rotational movement of the latch member with respect to the mounting body. When the latch member is in its unlatching position, the pin clears the mounting body to permit rotational movement of the latch member.

  • Patent number: 4576192
Abstract: An awning assembly for a travel trailer or mobile home including a pair of spaced apart support arms each pivotally secured to the side of the trailer with a roller supported at the upper ends of the support arms carrying a flexible covering having one end secured to the roller. A flexible metal cover in the form of a number of strips is secured to the opposite end of the flexible covering and to the side of the trailer to cover the flexible covering when same is rolled around the roller to form a casing therefor. Latching mechanisms is carried by the flexible strip near each end thereof and cooperates with a pair of brace members each pivotally mounted at one end to a respective one of the support arms and has a latch on the other end thereof for latching connection to one of the latching mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 4195877
Abstract: An exterior room for a trailer in which front, rear and side panels cooperate with an external frame connected to the trailer body to provide an external screen room. The front and side panels are joined at the junctures thereof by zippers to provide entry and exit to the screen room. The front panel is maintained under tension by means of a cable between supports for the side panels. Each of the front, rear and side panels is provided with an envelope at the bottom thereof which contains a watertight container. Water in the watertight container provide ballast to prevent the panels from flapping in the wind.
