  • Patent number: 6138798
Abstract: The elevator safety device creates a false pit beneath the elevator frame using left and right laterally-spaced, fixed stop members fixedly attached to the car frame, and left and right laterally-spaced safety columns affixed to the pit floor and pivotable between an extended position in vertical alignment with the left and right stop members, respectively, and a retracted position clear of the car, the frame, and the left and right stop members. The safety columns are bumper-type devices designed to support full car weight should the need arise, and provides the ASME A17.1 minimum depth of pit for the refuge area. Actuators are operatively connected to the safety columns to pivot them between their extended and retracted positions. A pressure-sensitive detector located on the pit floor below the car detects the presence of a person on the pit floor. The actuators are electronically activated to pivot the safety columns from their retracted to their extended positions.

  • Patent number: 5628418
Abstract: An electrical fixture mounting device for hanging an electrical fixture, such as a fan or light, from a suspended ceiling having a criss-cross framework of perpendicular supporting members supported from an overhead support structure. The device includes a box having a closed top, an open bottom, a continuous side wall, and slots in the side wall extending inwardly from the open bottom and configured to engage the supporting members. A wire is fastened at one end to the box and at its other end to the overhead support structure to suspend the box from the overhead support structure.

  • Patent number: 5606147
Abstract: An outlet box for mounting a fixture, such as a fan or a light, from a ceiling. Adjustable hanger screw mountings permit the mounting of a wide variety of fixtures to the box. Adjustability is attained by attaching the hanger screw mountings to the ends of a mounting arm which is pivotally connected to a top plate of the outlet box.

  • Patent number: 5393026
Abstract: An extensible hanger support providing a spanning connection between two spaced-apart joists or the like for supporting therefrom such items as ceilings fans, lights fixtures and the like. The support includes first and second extensible members which are telescopically axially movable between a fully collapsed condition and a fully extended condition. These extensible members employ cooperative means which are normally in threaded engagement in such a manner that high speed rotation of one of the members relative to the other results in axial movement toward either the fully collapsed condition or the fully extended condition depending upon the direction of rotation. Each of these extensible members has a free end which carries joist engaging means for respectively engaging a ceiling joist.
