  • Publication number: 20190211611
Abstract: A window frame protection system, for holding an exterior and an interior protective panel against a window, includes an extruded lineal having a first stacked screw boss, an exterior protective panel and a groove with covering cap. Anchoring screws driven through the exterior panel and into the stacked screw boss hold the panel to the lineal. A chamber for a second stacked screw boss, and a part of the extruded lineal, is to attach an interior panel to the window frame when additional window protection is needed and when the exterior of the window frame is not accessible. The second stacked screw boss may be inserted into the chamber during construction or, if the chamber is left open, may be added only when needed. A sash support on the interior of the window frame receives a sill riser for meeting higher design loads on the window sash.

  • Publication number: 20140326126
Abstract: A novel impact and blast resistant window is presented. A surface of a glazing pane has a durable transparent polymer film coated or adhered thereto. The surface of the window pane having the film is sealed to the sash by double sided tape. The resulting window produces an unexpected ability for the durable transparent polymer film to retain pieces of broken glass driven toward the interior of the building by a missile striking an exterior of the window, without the durable transparent polymer film pulling loose from the window sash.

  • Patent number: 8863452
Abstract: A storm trim for holding a panel over a window for protection against impact of objects carried by wind during a storm. The storm trim includes a lineal cap and a lineal base. The base may be used with a window frame, incorporated into a window frame or be used in glazing surrounds or shutters. The base carries a stacked screw boss to receive and securely hold the anchoring screws that are needed to hold the panel over the window. The anchoring screws do not extend through the lineal base but remain within it. When the storm trim is not in use, the cap covers the lineal base.

  • Publication number: 20100186641
Abstract: A novel impact and blast resistant window is presented. A surface of a window pane that is adjacent to an interior of a building has a durable transparent polymer film coated or adhered thereto. The surface of a window pane that is adjacent to an interior of a building is sealed to the sash by double sided tape. The resulting window produces an unexpected ability for the durable transparent polymer film to retain pieces of broken glass driven toward the interior of the building by a missile striking an exterior of the window, without the durable transparent polymer film pulling loose from the window sash.

  • Publication number: 20100000181
Abstract: Briefly, therefore the present invention is directed to a novel method of making a double glazed impact resistant window. The method includes forming a window sash that delineates a mounting space for mounting a first pane and a second pane opposite and parallel to and spaced apart from each other and adhering or coating at least two layers of a durable transparent polymer film to a surface of the first pane such that the at least two layers are not adhered or coated in directions that are parallel to one another. The method further includes conforming the pane to the size and shape of the mounting space, mounting the first pane in the mounting space with the non-film covered surface of the pane directly adjacent the sash, conforming the second pane to the size and shape of the mounting space, wherein the second pane is free of the durable transparent polymer film, and mounting the second pane in the mounting space.

  • Publication number: 20090277108
Abstract: A window system for installation in a structure is provided. The window system includes a front side that faces away from the structure and a back side that faces into the structure when the window system is installed in a structure. The window system further includes at least one window pane having a front side that faces away from the structure and a back side that faces into the structure when the window system is installed in a structure; at least one sash that surrounds the at least one window pane, wherein the sash has a front side that faces away from the structure and a back side that faces into the structure when the window system is installed in a structure; at least one window frame comprising at least one head, sill, and jamb; and at least one mounting base integral to the window.

Abstract: A novel method of making a double glazed impact resistant window is provided. The method includes forming a window sash that delineates a mounting space for mounting a first pane and a second pane opposite and parallel to and spaced apart from each other, the sash having an integral spacer that forms a sealing surface of the mounting space for each pane and adhering or coating at least two layers of a durable transparent polymer film to a surface of the first pane such that the at least two layers are not adhered or coated in directions that are parallel to one another. The method further includes conforming the pane to the size and shape of the mounting space, mounting the first pane in the mounting space with the film covered surface of the pane facing the sealing surface of the integral spacer, conforming the second pane to the size and shape of the mounting space, wherein the second pane is free of the durable transparent polymer film, and mounting the second pane in the mounting space.
