  • Patent number: 7213482
Abstract: An electro-mechanical actuator is provided that minimizes back drive effort by de-coupling the internal drive train of the actuator from the actuator output using a clutch. The clutch facilitates transfer of power to an output gear stage when the actuator motor is energized, but disengages the output gear stage when the actuator motor is de-energized. When the actuator output is manually operated, the clutch disengages the output gear stage, thereby reducing the number of gears that must be back driven by the manual actuation.

  • Patent number: 7134672
Abstract: A failsafe actuator is provided for returning an actuator driven element to a failsafe position in case of a failure condition. The actuator includes a drive assembly for driving a plunger from a first plunger position to a second plunger position. The actuator additionally includes a stored energy element for driving the plunger from the second plunger position to the first plunger position on the occurrence of the failure condition, wherein the actuator driven element is responsive to the plunger such that the actuator drive element is driven to the failsafe position when the plunger is driven to the first position.

  • Patent number: 6557688
Abstract: An actuator including a plurality of mounts for facilitating connection of the actuator to a variety of mounting bracket configurations for securing the actuator within an assembly. Also provided is a clutch assembly including an input member, an output member and pawls. Torque is transferred through the clutch when applied to the input member in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. When torque is applied to the output member, the clutch permits rotation in only one direction of rotation.

  • Patent number: 6298741
Abstract: An actuator for driving two separate gear trains having separate loads. The actuator includes: a drive motor; a drive gear attached to an output shaft of the drive motor; and first and second mating gears in meshing engagement with the drive gear. The first mating gear is axially fixed relative to the drive gear and adapted for driving the first gear train. The second mating gear is axially movable relative to the drive gear and adapted for driving the second gear train. Upon application of power to the drive motor, the first mating gear drives the first gear train, and the second mating gear drives the second drive train. The second mating gear is adapted to travel axially relative to the second gear train for disengaging therefrom when a load causes the second gear train to stall. The first mating gear may continue to drive the first gear train to stall.
