Abstract: A poker tournament for exhibition to an audience, such as a TV audience, is conducted by selecting a first number of poker players and conducting a round of poker. The round includes having the selected players play poker with a fixed stake until all but one of the players is eliminated. The round of poker is captured for exhibition, including determining and displaying to an audience the hidden cards of each player. Points are awarded to at least some of said players according to the order in which said players are eliminated. The round of play is repeated for a selected number of rounds with the same players, and a winner is selected according to the total number of points assigned to each player for the selected number of rounds.

Abstract: A system for locating players on a field includes first and second directional scanning antennas located adjacent the field. A transponder carried by the players detects the radiation from each antenna and transmits timing signals. The timing signals are received at a central station and compared to reference timing signals synchronized with the scanning of the antennas to provide an indication of the angular position of each player from the scanning antenna locations. The actual field position of the players can then be computed. The system can also locate the position of a playing object, such as a ball.

Abstract: A system is provided with a directional antenna having first and second antenna patterns oriented around an antenna boresight direction. The antenna boresight is oriented in a direction corresponding to a play determinative line on a playing field. Signals are emitted firm a playing object, used as a ball and detect using the two antenna patterns. Comparison of the detected signals provides an output indication when the playing object crosses the play determinative line.

Abstract: A poker tournament is displayed to an audience using a tournament table having stations for receiving and scanning the image of each players down cards. The display can identify the down cards of the players to the audience without revealing the information to the other players so that the audience can fully observe the strategy of each player.

Abstract: A toy doll includes a doll body and an animating mechanism in the doll body. The doll body includes a head portion including a resiliently flexible mouth section, a longitudinally expandable and contractible torso portion, and right and left arms and legs. The animating mechanism is operative by manually depressing the mouth section to actuate the animating mechanism to reciprocally move the mouth section inwardly and outwardly to simulate a chewing activity, and it is thereafter operative by manipulating one of the arms to actuate the animating mechanism to longitudinally expand the torso portion to simulate a growing activity.

Abstract: A toy doll comprises a doll body including a head portion having an aperture in the upper rear portion thereof, a lock of hair in the aperture and an advancing mechanism which is actuatable for advancing the lock of hair from a retracted first position to an extended second position wherein an increased portion of said lock of hair is exposed. The doll body further comprises first and second arms, and it is constructed so that the first arm is manipulatable for actuating the advancing mechanism and so that the second arm is rotatable for rewinding the advancing mechanism and for simultaneously moving the lock of hair toward the retracted position.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for the operation of a propulsion unit by a magnetic switch which includes a pair of longitudinally extending reeds that are held in a closed or open position by an associated auxiliary magnet. When an external magnet is moved along the longitudinally extending direction of the reeds, the switch is opened or closed.

Abstract: A toy construction having a toy element which is preferably embodied in a toy character figure, and a liquid crystal identification element on the toy element. The identification element is operative by the application of a small amount of heat thereto to change it from a non-displaying condition wherein an identifying image thereon is imperceptible and a displaying condition wherein the image is clearly visible. Hence, the identity of the character figure is normally concealed but can be readily revealed by a child when desired.

Abstract: A game apparatus makes use of a tape recorder and a programmed microprocessor to provide a game sequence in accordance with data recorded on a magnetic tape and using message outputs in the form of a voice recording on the same magnetic tape.
