Patent number: 4570763Abstract: A truck mounted air cylinder and slack adjuster incorporates an elongated brake operating member adapted to apply a brake applying thrust to the brake beams. An air cylinder is mounted to the truck and a threaded rod is attached to the brake operating member and extends into the air cylinder. A drive member is positioned within the air cylinder and is in sealing relationship with the cylinder walls. The drive member is movable within the cylinder in response to a brake application air pressure applied thereto. A clutch connecting the threaded rod to the drive member for concurrent axial movement with the clutch provides for rotation of the rod relative to the drive member. A slack adjuster is associated with the cylinder and the rod. The slack adjuster cooperates with the clutch to extend the rod relative to the elongated brake operating member in response to a slack condition sensed by the slack adjuster during a brake application.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 1983Date of Patent: February 18, 1986Assignee: Sloan Valve CompanyInventor: Henry R. Patent number: 4564246Abstract: A combined reservoir tank and pipe bracket for use in a railroad car air brake system includes a tank having a partition therein which divides the tank into emergency and service portions. An emergency valve mounting saddle and emergency valve are attached to the exterior of the tank and connected to the emergency portion of the reservoir. A service valve mounting saddle and service valve are attached to the exterior of the tank and there is a connection therefrom with the service portion of the tank. The mounting saddles are spaced on opposite sides of the tank and there is a tube extending within the tank and connecting the saddles which functions as a pipe bracket quick action chamber. There are conduits connecting the saddles in parallel arrangement with the quick action chamber tube for brake cylinder air, brake pipe air and the emergency reservoir.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1983Date of Patent: January 14, 1986Assignee: Sloan Valve CompanyInventor: Henry R. Patent number: 4494631Abstract: A combination air brake cylinder and hydraulic slack adjuster for a railroad car brake system includes an air operated piston positioned within a housing. There is an air port in the housing in communication with the air piston and there is a return spring in the housing operable upon the air piston. The housing includes a fluid outlet port and a fluid piston and valve arrangement within the housing connected to the air piston and responsive to brake application movement thereof to supply a brake shoe application fluid pressure at said outlet. A fluid reservoir is associated wtih the fluid piston and valve arrangement and has check valve controlled connecting passages thereto for adjusting slack in the brake rigging during brake application functions.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1982Date of Patent: January 22, 1985Assignee: Sloan Valve CompanyInventor: Henry R. Patent number: 4436116Abstract: A four-way valve for use in a railroad air brake system has a housing with an internal chamber and a plurality of ports in communication with the chamber. Two of the ports are adapted for connection to a railroad car brake pipe with an intermediate port being adapted for connection to the railroad car air brake system. A valve member is movable within the chamber between a plurality of positions, there being a position to close each port and a neutral position in which all ports are in communication with the chamber. The improvement is specifically directed to a seal member carried by the valve member and spring means which urge the seal member outwardly of the valve member and toward the described ports. Each port has seal means which include a floating seal ring within each port, with each floating seal ring being positioned for sealing contact with the valve member seal member.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1981Date of Patent: March 13, 1984Assignee: Sloan Valve CompanyInventor: Henry R. Patent number: 4417767Abstract: An empty and load brake device for a railroad vehicle air brake system includes an air pressure source, a control valve, a proportional valve and a brake cylinder all connected in series. A load sensor valve is in fluid communication with the line between the proportional valve and the brake cylinder. If the sensor valve senses an empty load condition, it actuates the proportional valve to decrease the air pressure supplied to the brake cylinder. The load sensor valve has a rock and roll spring which dampens movement caused by rough track conditions, thereby preventing erroneous indications of either an empty or loaded car.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 1982Date of Patent: November 29, 1983Assignee: Sloan Valve CompanyInventor: Henry R. Patent number: 4291923Abstract: An empty and load brake device for a railroad vehicle air brake system for controlling brake application pressure comprises a housing having an inlet connected to a pressure source and an outlet connected to an air brake cylinder. There is a first passage between the inlet and outlet and valve means for controlling communication through said first passage. A pressure proportional piston controls opening and closing of said first valve means. There is a second passage between said inlet and outlet and second valve means controlling communication through said second passage. A load sensing arm is movably attached to the housing and is in operable engagement with said second valve means for controlling operation thereof.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 1980Date of Patent: September 29, 1981Assignee: Sloan Valve CompanyInventor: Henry R. Patent number: 4241759Abstract: Slow closing faucet control cartridge for removably mounting in a faucet casing. The depression of an operating knob activates the faucet and rotation of the knob permits the mixing of hot and cold water inlets.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1978Date of Patent: December 30, 1980Assignee: Sloan Valve CompanyInventor: Henry R. Patent number: 4235478Abstract: An empty and load brake device for a railroad vehicle air brake system for controlling brake application pressure comprises a housing having an inlet connected to a pressure source and an outlet connected to an air brake cylinder. A valve is positioned within the housing to control communication between said inlet and outlet. A pressure proportional piston is movable within the housing and is positioned to open and close the valve. A latch is positioned within the housing and cooperates with the piston to lock the piston in a position in which said valve is held in an open position providing full communication between said inlet and outlet. Release of the latch permits the pressure proportional piston to throttle the flow of air through said valve to provide reduced pressure at the outlet. A load sensing arm is movably attached to the housing and controls operation of the latch.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1979Date of Patent: November 25, 1980Assignee: Sloan Valve CompanyInventor: Henry R. Patent number: 4132388Abstract: An angle cock having a rotatable cylindrical plug valve carrying a plurality of sealing members each fitted within a double recess on the periphery of the plug. A sealing member is urged by air pressure into a sealing position when the angle cock is in the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1977Date of Patent: January 2, 1979Assignee: Sloan Valve CompanyInventor: Henry R. Patent number: 4115026Abstract: Means for controlling the advance of a thread forming member include a unidirectionally driven constant speed spindle, with the spindle mounting a thread forming member. A lead screw and a nut threadedly mounted thereon have a thread in which the helix angle is sufficiently high that the nut is freely rotatable relative to the lead screw in response to axial movement of the lead screw. The lead screw or the nut is attached to the spindle. There are means for controlling rotation of the other of these two members independently of the member attached to the spindle and during unidirectional constant speed rotation of the spindle to thereby control axial movement of the spindle.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1976Date of Patent: September 19, 1978Assignee: Sloan Valve CompanyInventor: Henry R.
